Question:
Deodorant Changes Needed?
This is rather embarrassing, but has anyone used the same deodorant for years (I have used Arrid XX) and now nothing seems to work well?? I have noticed that the under arm odor has increased as my weight-loss has progressed-more so in the past 5-6 weeks. It is so embarrassing. Wondering if it could possibly be the excess under arm skin causing it? (If it is maybe that would be a good reason for reconstructive surgery for upper arms). I am just trying to find out if anyone else has experienced this and what they have done to ease it. I apply deodorant about 3 times a day now--(note: this has been happening even if it has been 40 degrees outside!?) — LisaL. (posted on May 24, 2004)

Hi Lisa, you are not alone. I am having the same problem. I'm almost at 1
year mark. I've changed deoderants 3x's.I have always used Suave. Then one
day I noticed I was stinkin':) Changed to Arrid XX. Didn't work. Now I'm
trying Sure. Seems to be working. Just came inside from working in the yard
and I don't think I smell.:) I would just try new ones til you find one
that works for you. Have a great day, Marie

Try Mitchum- It works great for me.I noticed that as more and more weight
came off I had increased under arm odor. Supposedly you can even skip a day
and it will still work, although I use it everday after showering. Hope
this helps.

Absolutely! I am over 2 years out and I STILL have to change deodorants
regularly. I am currently using Dove and so far it's working, but I know
that within a couple of months I'll have to change again! Look in the
library - because I remember this question being asked several months ago
and there were some good answers and explanations for us at that time. Good
luck to you!!

I've heard that a switch to mens deodorant works in that situation. I'd be
guessing what you're experiencing is a result of the hormonal changes your
body is going through. The other suggestion is that you can use a crystal
rock deodrant (geez...I can't think of the name, but you'll find it in most
stores with the deodorants or in the health food store) it is some type of
mineral which prevents bacteria growth under the arms, that keeps away the
odor. However, it's only a deodorant, not an anti-perspirant. The rock
has worked wonders for me.

I am almost 8 weeks post op, and just noticed in the last week or so, that
my Avon deodorant just stopped working! I just couldnt beleive that it was
me that had odor! I sniffed my hubby, and sure enough it was me! I have
used Avon for many years too! Luckily, I had picked up mens deoderant at
walmart on clearance for emergencies, I always stock up on Avons brand. So,
the men's kind is working great! I was at a loss! I had no clue what
happened! Im glad Im not alone! I didnt know that your body chemistry
changes as you lose weight!

I'm not sure of all the technical/medical terms, but it has something to do
with the toxins being released from your systems. The same reason you may
notice your breath having an odor (brush you tongue). It happens to almost
all of us including those doing Atkins or South Beach that didn't have WLS.
I had to switch from Lady Mitchum to a new Arrid brand and its much
better. Good Luck!

Ketotis. If its not your breath, it seaps out of all your pores. I know
what you are going thru, Sorry for all of us. But it is worth that meltin
feeling.

Ketosis - I have the same problem... the more well-behaved I am in
controlling my carbs (cannot tolerate them) the more difficult this can be
for me. Even though I rarely sweat (even after a 15 mile bike ride this
weekend through a SWAMP!).<br>I use a men's deoderant: Sure
Advantage. It's cool, too, because it looks like that neato Play-Doh
Barbershop when it comes out of the dispenser.

Men's Mitchum ROLL on deodorant works for me. I have used Dry Idea since I
was a teenage well NO MORE. I have to use the Mitchum men's roll on. I also
talked to my Dr. and she gave me a prescribe deodorant that is VERY STRONG
called Drysole (spelling) I think I have not tried it as of yet.

I know that even before surgery I have always had to switch deodorants
every 6 months or so. It's a pain in the butt for sure. Right now I am
using Tussy roll on in Powder scent. Normally I can't wear a powder scent
but this one works great for now and it is cheap only $0.99 at Walmart.
Good luck to you and know that you aren't alone!
