Question:
I have had several instances, after indulging in too much sugar

First I felt dizzy while sitting, kind of like I was floating around and then my tongue and lips became numb, while I was still floating. Was I dumping? I didnt feel ill, just dizzy and the weird numbness. It lasts about 20 minutes and then is just gone. I would be really happy to hear from anyone that has any ideas about this.BTW this has happened in the last 3-4 weeks, 3 or 4 times. Thanks, Wendie prox RNY 7/11/2003 down 106 lbs — WendieS (posted on May 18, 2004)

Hi, yep you were dumping, I have had those syptoms too if I consume something that is too rich in sugar or even on fatty foods, so I try to stay away fornm the fats, but as for the sugar, I try to eat sugar free things or just eat regular sugar sometimes in moderation, alittle bite here and there not the whole thing, or I will tend to dump. And I even can dump on sugar free things if it has too many sugar alcohols in it, so watch for that too.I guess it just depends on what it is, but sometimes you never know until you try it! But, ppl can dump in different ways, they can have dizziness or some numbness, and some also experience, diaherra, and vomiting. So just try to be careful, but sometimes it happens.

Sounds like dumping to me! But lots of people dump differently.

It reminds me of the joke.... a guy goes into the doctor's office, and moving his arm up and down, he says, "It hurts when I do this." and the doc says, "Well, don't DO THAT!"

From what I have seen from non-dumpers, be thankful, like I am, that you are a dumper. It is good motivation to be good :)

I am pre-op, so not had dumping. It sounds like an anxiety attack. I use to have them with the floating feeling, numbness.. Was almost as if I was watching from above. Strange feeling. Just a thought. Marla

Sugar is like CRACK to me these days! (I'm assuming, I've never done drugs!) I get jittery, floaty-headed, hyped, then the sugar-crash hits me hard and I'm about comatose. I'm not talking about eating a birthday cake, either, I'm talking about accidentally ingesting a bite or two of somethign containing sugar. I don't have any abdominal discomfort or diarrhea at all from sugar. This might not be scientific, but I have my own theory about this. Our bodies are so "clean" now post-op. We don't have any of the old junk in us, and we're not used to things like sugar, which we used to be hooked on. I think my body is just so clean now that little things like sugar are more noticeable, and throw me way out of balance.

It does sound like you were dumping. In the past when I've dumped, I didn't experience the numbness though. Do you think perhaps you may have also been allergic to the food you ate? Just a thought.

Why would you have indulged in high-sugared foods that made you feel lousy four times in a month?
