Question:
Anyone experienced sudden weight loss 12-15 mos post op?
My surgery was December 2002. I lost around 70 pounds (I was a 'light weight' by some standards, but not by my own at 254 pounds and 5'7" tall. Since December, 2003, my appetite and weight have been climbing steadily. I have now regained around 30 pounds. Quite honestly, I am really stressed out---my mother has been diagnosed with Alzheimers, my daughter is graduating and getting ready to leave home for college, and all of the news from Iraq is horrifying. My doctor doesn't have a structured after care program and I feel that I am falling apart. I can't believe that my previous success from WLS is going down the tubes! Has anyone else experienced something similar and how did you recover? — asumamma1 (posted on May 12, 2004)

I am not sure which surgery you had Lap Band or Bypass, but first and
foremost, make sure nothing has gone wrong (band slippage, if that is your
case) If you can eliminate that from your problem, then please, please,
please, find a support group, if you can't find a support group how a bout
a psycologist. I don't think your crazy, please don't misunderstand, but
you definately need to talk to someone who can be objective about what is
going on with you. Don't wait, you've made it through the hardest part,
don'e give up now! Good Luck! ~ Sherry

You should try the pouch rules and see if that helps. Go to
www.digitalhorsewomen.com and go to the WLS and pouch rules. Hope this
helps.

I second the motion to go to a doc and see if something is wrong. I was
reading your profiel adn you said at 6 mo you could eat an 8 oz steake and
beggies and potato.. whoa baby. That's wayyyyyyy more than I would even
thought of eating. Have them check all your parts to make sure that
everything is still in tact. Then.. as others have said.. get back to
basics with vitamins, protein, water, etc. Take care and get back on that
horse!!

Thanks everybody---I appreciate the support I've found here. I called my
doctor's office today to schedule a follow-up appointment. Guess what?
She's moved to Kentucky!!
They DO have a gastric surgeon who has taken over her patients. I have an
appointment with him on May 26th. I feel like something must be
wrong---how in the world could I gain 30 pounds in 6 months if half of my
intestine is bypassed (even if my pouch has stretched or staple line has
disrupted)????
I had an Open RNY---one of you asked which procedure I had. I do not know
if I was 'transected' or not---I'm guessing that I wasn't.
Will find out more and will let you know how the appointment goes.
Thanks again---God bless!
Martha
