Question:
Hi, My name is kim and I need some encouragement

I had my surgery , lap rny on october 7th 2003. I have not kept a daily or even monthly diary. I started at 261, 5ft 4 inches tall. I will be 6 months out on April 7th and have lost 70 pounds. I have been at 70 for about a month now. I do walking, eat the right things and drink all my water, plus protein drinks made with water. Have I lost all I am going to lose?? Is it likely that I could get down to 140 pounds? How do you think I am doing? Impatient in Texas!!! thanks kim    — KIM B. (posted on March 28, 2004)

Hi Kim,congratulations on your 70lbs loss. you most likely have NOT reached the point where you will not lose anymore. We basically have an 18 month window. Your body is just catching up with the weight loss. I bet you are losing inches while you are not losing pounds. Keep up the good work, and the pounds will come off, probably not as quickly as in the beginning, but it will come off. I' at the point of losing 3-6 lbs a months, slow?? yes, but, better coming off than going on. Keep up the good work :-) RNY 5/15/03 - 5"2" down 118 lbs ( started at 282 now 164)

Hi Kim! We were almost exactly the same stats. I am 5'3 and was 260. I was down 72 on my 6th month. I had a slower than average, but steady loss until around 17 mo out. I got down to 148 but am a size 8/10 pant. I'm 4 years out in April and have maintained. I am mostly muscle and very little fat/flab.(had tt + bst lift) Be patient and don't cheat. It will come off until about a year or year/half. Best of Luck!

I would suggest you put your info. into the following site and see where you are on the losing chart. http://www.thinnerself.com/files/Expect_Chart.htm I have always thought I was a slow loser compared to my friends but according to the above chart mentioned I'm on the high end of weight loss! This definitely helps lift the cloud of discouragement, then I move on... usually with a little grin on my face! Everyone loses differently and as hard as it is, we just can't compare ourselves to others! Congratulations on your loss, and keep up the good work! Lap Rny 7/11/03 231/145

Hi Kim, Congrats on your weight loss, thus far. No....You are not thru loosing! lol My weight day of surgery was 250 and I'm 5'4" inches tall or short! I was 53 at the time of my Lap on 2/11/03. I lost 100 pounds by my 6th month and was at goal by my 9th. I exercised from my 1st day home 7 days a week. Makes a difference. Also firms/tones and adds muscle and you don't loose muscle as you loose the weight. My goal was to become healthy and I never foccused on a dress size or weight size. I left that up to my surgeon.Up your protein/water/exercise. It will come off. (((HUGS)))

Hi Kim! we are the same height and I was 269. I am currently down 125 pounds and I'll be one year out on April 16. I weigh 144 and probably won't lose a whole lot more until plastic surgery to get rid of my "baby bag"-an affection term I use for my tummy. Be patient and steadfast with your food, protein, water and exercise and believe me-YOU WILL GET THERE!! Beth - rny 4/03, 269/144/1??

You will be just fine. Everyone looses at their own pace & it is confusing if you try to compare yours to others.. Each person will hit some plateaus where you will be at a standstill for awhile & maybe even several.. But don't worry you are doing great & just keep up the good work & be patient.. Anne in Texas

Kim, It sounds like you are doing fine to me. When I was about 6 months out I hit a small platue, but I started to really focuse on my proteines again, and started to lose again. I am losing slower, but I figure that is the way it should be. I think 140 is very reasonalbe for a goal, you just need to keep at it. I think we get fooled becouse the first major pounds come off so fast, we get discouraged when the loss slows down. You will keep losing, it's just the body may need to catch up with the fast loss? Good luck, Jennifer

Kim...What you're experiencing is normal. I stalled at about 6 months too and thought I was done losing. I was probably at about 70 lbs. lost, like you are and I still made the 100 lb. weight loss by 9 months. I didn't lose for about 6 weeks then lost over 10 lbs in 3 weeks. It's crazy how it works but it does work. Keep up the good work and be patient! :) Paula in Texas

I highly doubt you've stopped losing already. You're just a little stuck. I started out 100 lbs heavier than you had lost 101 in my first six months and proceeded to lose another 82 pounds or so in the next year. March 20 marked my 18 month anniversary and I'm still losing although VERY SLOWLY. I think you could definitely lose the last 50 over the next year.

Hi Kim, I can understand what you are going through because my weight is coming off very slowly. My surgery date was June 11, 2003/292/242..I'm down 50 lbs and I yo yo between 236 and 242..I've chosen to be a vegetarian who eats fish and I watch what I eat. I also found out that I have a hernia which needs to come out, but they want to wait until I'm 18months out. I can empathize with you on all levels. I'm grateful for the weight I have lost so far it has enabled me to do things I couldn't do for years. Have patience, a big smile and keep this hug {{Kim}}for when you need one. Keep strong, Deborah
