Question:
Reducing gallbladder pain with a clear liquid diet?
I have gallstones, I have been experiencing a dull pain, intermittingly, for the last five weeks. I went to the Doctor and he said that my gallbladder was inflamed and that I should try a clear liquid diet to alleviate the pain and inflammation. Has this helped anyone? Is there anything else that helped you? I don't want to have another surgery. I am two years, post op -162lbs. Allison — Allison M. (posted on March 27, 2004)

HI! I had gallstones back in Novemeber and had to have surgery....but the 2
weeks prior to surgery, I was on a chicken noodle soup diet! It kept my
pain away! I ate only chicken noodle soup, or chicken and stars....jello
gelatin, oatmeal(with LITTLE butter and sugar), grilled cheese with diet
cheese and LITTLE butter, and apple juice or water. NONE of these things
made me hurt. Oh yeah, I also bought pre-cooked chicken nuggets and
microwaved them. I tried to peel the crust off but I did eat a little of
the crust too! So I dont know if THIS will help...but Im sure its not a
permanent solution. Surgery to me was the BEST option. It was done LAP and
it was a piece of cake! I was back to work in less than 2 weeks and I work
at a daycare. I was up and walking within 30 minutes afterwards. TRUST ME-
if you are having gallbladder attacks, the pain from surgery is NOTHING
compared to the attacks! If I were you, I wouldnt hesitate to get it out.
After all, can you do a liquid diet the rest of your life?? HOPE THIS
HELPS!

Ummm, can you get over galbladder issues? I would hate to think you would
be living on soup for the rest of your life. My galbladder pains only got
worse. The surgery is a breeze...don't sweat it.

perhaps trying the soup, liquids will allow the inflammation to subside
making for a safer gallbaldder removal.

Thanks for your replies. I did clear liquids for the last 24 hours and the
pain is GONE. I know that it will come back if I eat the wrong foods. I
guess that this will keep me on track :) I think what started it was that
I ate 1/2 an In and out burger, live and learn. ;) Allison
