Question:
I am 1 1/2 yrs post op. I have lost 110 lbs. The last month I have
been exhausted. I can't seem to stay awake in the evenings at all. By 8 pm I am asleep. I had my iron & B12 checked last week and they were normal. Any ideas? Nothing has really changed recently to make me tired. — jojo63 (posted on March 18, 2004)

Collen, funny that I ran across this question because I was going to ask
the same thing. I am 1 1/2 years post op from Distal Bypass. I have done
wonderfully and have have no complications. Lately, I am having trouble
staying awake. I could sleep anytime of the day or night. I try to stay
awake until 9 but find that I fall asleep by 8:30 or so. My last labs look
great and other than feeling sleepy all the time I am doing great.
Hopefully someone will have an answer here.

How is your water intake? Lack of hydration can cause tiredness.

Have your Thyroid hormone levels Checked.
The exhausted feeling you described reminds me of when my levels are low.

I had the same problem awhile back, blood tests came out normal.I found
mine was do carb intake, if i had too many i was falling asleep, also water
intake. Since i have corected both of those and increased excersise things
are alot better

full time job...but I am exhausted ALL THE TIME...I have to have my
bloodwork done, because I didn't have insurance when I had my 1 yr
checkup...

This is notreally an answer, I wish I had one. I am 18 months out, take my
B12, Iron, Multi vit, calcium. Myl evels are good except iron is
borderline, because I need to take 2 not 1 and i get so constipated. I
know that when I get dehydrated, I get alot more tired. But for a couple
weeks I have been very tired, fighting a strange virus, get a bit nauseated
after eating, some times, every 3 days, i ahve an episode of dizzyness and
thinking i may pass out. I have 2 good friends who are also having this,
and they are not post ops, also my son told me 2 days ago he thought he
may faint at school ,and all he was doing was sitting at his desk and
drawing for art. Strange. My head is foggy and I feel dazed and cant
focus. I hope this goes away soon!

Hi. I have been having the same problem. Right now I could fall asleep at
my desk. My problem is from allergies. Its that time of year again. It
makes me feel like I am in a daze all the time. I don't get the runny nose,
sneezing, or water eyes, just tired, and foggy headed.

Have you collected all your labs since pre-op? When you get them all there,
compare the levels. Even though you might fall in the normal ranges, it
might not be good enough FOR YOU. I prefer my B12 to be up around 800.
Most docs would not react til it drops below 200, for example. I was able
to explain WHY I needed B12 shots before I bottomed out and never have had
to do that. But I did hit the 300's. I was anemic for years, finally found
an iron that worked and am no longer. Stress can eat you alive and there
are days when I stand up, only to grab a cat and go back to bed. I had
labs recently and my levels are all good according to *MY* exacting
standards, but I do believe there's some extra stress going on that is
making me tired.
