Question:
This is not so much a question, but....
I wanted to let everyone know about an article I read. Here is the link...http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/03/02/48hours/main603413.shtml. I want other like me who are considering surgery to read it because I think it is so important to make sure your surgeon is qualified to perform the procedure. Nowadays we are forced to experience long waits for consultations myself included because of the popularity of WLS. I want surgery more than anything, but I am also aware that the surgeon I want is highly sought after and extremely experienced as well. I would hate to think that I read this article and did not pass it along to all of you and someone paid with their life. WLS saves lives as we all know, but I wanted to make sure that we all make sure to research everything before taking the plunge. Just because someone is a surgeon does not mean we should trust him/her. Check out your surgeon before trusting him/her with your life. You have all been so wonderful to me whenever I have asked a question and I wanted to take this opportunity to provide this info to all of you. God bless you all:-) — Sara A (posted on March 11, 2004)

You are absolutely right in that you should research your surgeon and make
sure that he is experienced in this surgery. So many people are getting
frustrated when they call for an initial consult and are given dates seven
or eight months away (or even more) and call around to find a place that
they can get in quicker. Sometimes they never stop to think "why
does it takes do long to see Dr. X when Dr. Y can see me right away"?
Well, maybe it's because everyone wants to have Dr. X do the surgery
because he's the best in the area and Dr. Y's just started doing these
operations...JR

John and Sara: You are both right! It's worth waiting for the highly
skilled and experienced surgeon. When we think about how long we've been
MO, a few months more should not make that much difference (unless we're in
immediate danger because of the weight!). Never settle for less than the
best.
