Question:
I have had two bad cold sores since surgery ten weeks ago.
Has anyone else had this happen to them? My friend who had gastric bypass surgery said the same thing happened to her.I am wondering if anyone knows why this happens and does it have anything to do with our immune system? — natalie J. (posted on February 21, 2004)

I also had a problem with "coldsores" and my PHP says they are
also related to stress and heaven knows you are early in your journey so
lots of stress. Relax and they will go away. I don't have a problem with
them anymore and I'm 10 months out. We can't help but be stressed at 10
weeks until our bodies get used to the new "arrangement"...HUGS!

I ampre op but use valtrex. It is a a miracle pill. Ask your doctor if your
new tummy can handle it. It will be gone in 2 days.

Cold sores is the Herpes virus and any trauma to your body or high stress
to your body will cause an outbreak. If you had genital herpes, you have
had an outbreak there most likely.

Are you taking a strong antibiotic or have been on antibiotics for a 2
weeks or more?? Twice when I had to take antibiotics for an infection for a
longer time than normal I developed real bad cold sores and a yeast
infection. My doctor advise me that it was because of the medication. Go
figure >>>> you're taking antibiotic to get better and it
throws you into something else <<<< weird >>>> .

On the contrary for me....I used to have 3-5 cold sore breakouts around my
lips. They'd usually show up after a cold or after a particulary stressful
time in my life. Well, since surgery almost 11 months ago, I have not had
ANY pop up. I don't know why or why not. It's definitely not for lack of
stress in my life :)
