Question:
I have had 2 coldsores since my surgery in Dec.,has anyone else?
Does this have something to do with my immune systen since surgery? My friend is about 9 months post-op and she said she had three coldsores right after surgery. — natalie J. (posted on February 16, 2004)

I am almost 15 months post op and lately I have been having those MOST
annoying and painful canker sores in my mouth. If I accidently bite the
inside of my mouth, one of those sores appears. If I bump my mouth with my
electric toothbrush, I get a sore. They seem to last forever and they
really, really hurt. Never associated them with my WLS however.

The virus that causes cold sores is always in your body. It waits for your
body to become worn down by stress or illness and then flairs up. Both
times I had my children I popped a nasty set of cold sores within a week. I
have several coworkers who get them every time they fall behind with their
cases. Aprevea does help but it is expensive.

I almost never get sold sores but if I did (pre-op) it was 1 at a time
.Well about 6 weeks post-op I got 2 very nasty ones and I wondered if it
had anything to do with my immune system being ran down, I am now 4 months
post-op and I have not had anymore .

My husband (non wls) had a bout with 2 cold sores for 1 month, so I did
some reading on the net, and it is a virus, but it said it could also be a
lack of B12, so he took one of my sublinguele b12's each day for a couple
of weeks and they havent returned. Are you taking B12 sublinguele? it
must be sublinguele or it wont be absorbed by wls'ers.

Prior to surgery I'd only had about 3 cold sores in my entire life. The
day after surgery I noticed I had 2, one right next to the other! I'm only
5 weeks out so haven't had any more but I hear they're from stress.
