Question:
2 months out and have only lost 28lbs
Is anyone going through this? The past two weeks I have only lost 0.4 and it is very upseting. I can only eat 3 times a day normally. There are times I am hungry and when this happens I am never full once I eat. I can't seem to lose at this time. I know a few people and they are not having this kind of problem. Does anyone else see this happening? My pouch is a full cup, and the doctor says it will take me about 2 years or more to lose what I should lose, but it is still discuraging. Does anyone have suggestions for me that may help? — Nancy H. (posted on February 16, 2004)

Are you doing cardio exercise 5 hours a week and getting in 64 oz of
water?
Also, average weight loss for 2 months is 27-44 pounds. m So it feels slow
to you, but it is in the normal weight loss range.

You are probably not eating enough.

I am about ten weeks out and I am in the same boat as you are.I have lost
36 pounds but am stuck at 183, i started out at 219.I was told that I would
lose slower than others because i was smaller to begin with.I realize that
it is still early to worry but it sure is discouraging!!I guess we should
just hang in there and it will happen!!

It sounds to me too that you arent eating enough. Every surgeon is
different, but mine told me to eat at least 5 very small meals a day. I've
done well, not even close to goal yet. All my labs have been perfect and I
am so healthy! Please dont make the same mistake I have in comparing
myself and my weight loss to everyone else. The weight will come off try
to concentrate on the health issue.

What kind of surgery did you have? I was under the impression that after
RNY the pouch is more like 2oz not a full cup?

I am having similiar problems. I had my surgery in Nov and I've only lost
50 pounds so far. Thats without exercising. I guess I would lose more if
I started exercising more but the fatigue has been overwhelming sometimes.
Last month I only lost 3 pounds for the entire month. I was really blown
away. I also can eat more than I thought I could. I can eat two tacos at
a time. and I can drink sweets without getting sick. This is not a good
thing. I think I've stretched my pouch already or something. I should
only be getting in 30cc of food at a time. I guess I need to go see my
doctor, and find out if he needs to redo the surgery, what do you think?

I am also curious as to what surgery you had. A full cup, which I assume
is 8 oz, is bigger than most new pouches. If thats the case, then I can
see it taking 2 years to lose weight. Also, are you restricted from eating
more than 3 times a day and how much do you eat at each meal? Losing
slowly is nothing to be too concerned about, it happens to many, but they
end up losing it all in the end, its just not as fast as they'd like. If
you had the RNY, I'd concentrate on eating more frequently, good protein
meals and small amounts. Are you also exercising?

HI Nancy, I've had the RNY done 6-11-03 and I am down 55lbs. This is much
slower than most, but I'm fine with the slow weight loss, at least I'm
losing something. What exactly do you eat and how much seems to be a
clarifying question. Make sure you drink plenty of water and do exercise,
it does help. Lastly, I'd check and make sure what size stomach your
physician left you with, that would help answer your question better.
Good Luck,
Debbie
