Question:
My question is, Does everyone lose their hair?
I am a black woman and I have twist in my hair and from what I see my hair is still growing from the root. I am two weeks away from being 6 months out. Is it possible that I won't lose my hair????? — Marian B. (posted on February 2, 2004)

I just had my one year anniversary, and I never lost any hair. I have had
lots of surgeries over the years, so maybe that had something to do with
it. Good luck on your weight loss.

I don't know a lot about African-American hair but you could be safe altho
a few have reported losing hair further out. I am one year out next week
and my hair is still coming out. I, too, have had lots of surgeries and
unlike the other poster, I have lost a lot of hair each time. This time
has been the worst.

I have a friend who is African American, and had weight-loss surgery.
After the operation her hair thinned out a great deal, however 6 to eight
months later it is growing back as thick as ever. My hair growth slowed
down a great deal for about three months. Everyone is different as is
their hair growth.

Marian...I am 19 mos out and have not lost any hair either. I was wondering
in the beginning if I would be one of those people who would lose their
hair. But I guess by maintaining a good source of protein intake in my
diet, I have done well. So no, not everyone loses hair because of this
surgery.
