Question:
Is green tea ok for us to drink
I have heard that green tea is good for health reasons, but I am wondering if it is ok for us to drink. I am not sure about the caffiene. I appreciate any help that you can give me. {{{Hugs}}} — Carolyn L. (posted on February 1, 2004)

Hi Carolyn,
Yes, green tea is great. It has wonderful antioxidants, and lots of
Vitamin K. HOWEVER, if you are at all anemic, do not drink much of it at
all.
Blessings,

Why can't you drink much of it if you are anemic?

If green tea is just that...a green variety of tea leaves that are
grown...how can the 'herbs'...which there are none of (unless you buy
herbal tea which, is not truly tea at all), cause us to malabsorb iron?
Anyone have any research info on this?? I regularly drink decaf green
tea...and many other types of herbal 'tea'...and have had problems with low
iron. It would be nice to know what to avoid...if these two are truly
related. Thanks!

This is a Quote I got from Web MD " Green tea contains a large amount
of caffeine, which may cause anemia and other problems in children."
so it appears decaf green tea can be ingested. Green tea has many good
trace minerals and anti oxidants as well. I also did suffer from
anemia--8.6 now I am at 13 and 40% and gave blood 1/30--I cut out normal
green tea and added 4 chicken livers and spinach daily, since my body
wasn't absorbing the iron tablets my doctor had me on.

I drink decaf green tea w/ splenda on a daily basis, and while doing that
my blood counts have increased to better than preop levels with
supplementation, so I don't think the green tea hurt me any. Read Andrew
Weils 8 weeks to Optimum health. It has lots of info on green tea. I have
been following many of the suggestions in the book with modifications based
on my own needs, IE my portion sizes are smaller. I FEEL GOOOOD!
