Question:
Anyone else with an oversized rib cage?

Does anyone else out there have extremely large ribs? Now that I've lost down to what the doc says is my "ideal" weight, my breasts have gone from 44C (never that big) to 34B (need to get real measurements at a good department store sometime). I'm about 13 months out from open rny, having lost just a hundred pounds, but all my health issues are resolved. What a hlessing that is! My ribs are almost as large or jutting out as my breasts. When I suck in my stomach, mind you I have two hernias on the upper portion of the incision line right now), I can make it concave about three to four inches. I realize that my ribs are holding up my breasts (not necessarily a bad thing), but it's rather odd. My surgeon says I just have large ribs. Anyone else or am I the sideshow here? Thanks.    — Mary Ann B. (posted on January 24, 2004)

WOW I thought I was the only one. My ribs stick out farther than my boobs!

Wow I thought I was the only one to. I am a 5ft 8in female and my ribs, hip bones, and knees are huge. The only little bones I think I have are my hands, wrists, and elbows. I am 10 months post op lost 170. Does this mean I will never be a size 5 or 6?

Nope, you can count me in among those with a huge ribcage too. I'm 5'10" and large boned--now that the fat is gone from my upper body I can see how large my bones are. Jeez! You can see my ribcage front and back when I stand, and my individual ribs are at least 1" wide. When I'm lying down it's just freakish. But I am THRILLED to be able to see my big ol' bones now.

Me too!! I couldn't put my finger on why my body looks so strange now. My ribcage is so wide in comparison to the rest of my body. Probably is the reason that my bra size only went from a 40 to a 38. I have always been large framed and broad, but now things look so odd. BUT, I could think of worse things to deal with----like my flabby belly, oy!

I too have a huge ribcage in comparison with the rest of me. I am a size 6, and my lower body is pretty normal, but my upper area is huge. Not fat, but a very protruding ribcage. I had a TT and breast augmentation and now the boobs really stick out. I think I look out of proportion. I guess having four children hasn't helped with this. Oh well, I still look alot better than before.

Are you an apple, too? Or just "barrel chested"? Lucky us, in that our ribs don't taper down toward the waist. Sometimes I feel odd in that I have sometimes 2 X larger size on top than bottom. Like I'm small boned below the waist and large boned above. It makes buying clothes interesting. But hey, rather be sizes 7/3 than 30/26, right?
