Question:
Does having a LAP RNY automatically mean you are transected?

I am ashamed to admit I never found out this info. I called and asked the nurse, and she said medical-wise it was a given and had to be transected in a LAP operation. Yet she mentioned 3 rows of staples also. I also remember reading on the net somewhere that if it was LAP it meant that it was transected. So now I am confused. If anyone had/has Dr. Courcoulas or knows, please let me know. I will be getting my operative notes on 2/2/04, so I should find out by then. Thanks, Kim    — Kim K. (posted on January 21, 2004)

Hey another pittsburger! I believe she transects, but not all LAP surgeons do. Do you know about the pittsburgh yahoo group? Meetings, pot lucks, shopping trips and other fun stuff! It really helps to socialize and know others who have had WLS. EVERYONE is welcome at schauers support group meetings too! Februarys the first wednesday of each month. Well it will be the 3 year mark foir my attending them and I have something special planned!

You can call your surgeon and ask them to send you the op notes for your surgery. It will say in there. It is a good idea to have these notes anyway. It should say exactly what they did while you were under. You will be more informed on what your body is like and better able to convey that to doctors in the future.
