Question:
Questionnaire Question
On the medical information questionnaire I had to fill out for my doctor I understand the reason for all of the questions asked except one. That is the one where they ask how many pregnancies, live births, miscarriages etc. you have had. I'm just curious what this has to do with WLS? — Erin N. (posted on January 18, 2004)

I would guess the questions have little to do with WLS, but would tell the
doctor about your general health.

Could be because of scar tissue also.

For general health purposes I guess I also know that women who have not had
children could be at higher risk for certain cancers and other things.

I had a C-section with one of my deliveries and I think the doctor would
need to know that since I may have adhesions or scar tissue connected to my
instestines that would make the surgery much more difficult to do. I think
the doctor just needs you to be honest with all of your health history.
They are not trying to judge you on what may or may not have happened with
your decisions regarding your reproductive choices (I don't know if you are
upset about listing something you think is too personal regarding the
outcome of any pregnancy and none of us would judge you either, regardless
of our personal views on carrying our children to term). I hope you answer
it honestly and just chalk it up to all the other questions that may not
have anything to do with the surgery area they will be working on. God
Bless you and best of luck to you.

My Dr. told me that it helps them to understand what level of scar tissue
you could have in the abdominal wall. It also helps them to know how the
elasticity of the stomach wall will be.
