Question:
What options are available to those pre-ops who seemingly have none?

i know this can be a very frustrating thing. Can your parents help in any
way such as taking out a loan or second mortgage? Are you physically
unable to get a job?

Hello there-- I am sorry that you haven't found a way to have surgery. Do
you not qualify for state Medicaid because of technical reasons? Like do
you have to be disabled and get government disability first? I would like
to help if possible but need more information. You may have exhausted all
of the options, but it is worth a try. Sorry that things are frustrating.
Sending peace your way.

this is hard to answer because there aren't any facts to look at. and i
would love to help you out if i could. if you live with your parents and
they don't claim you on their taxes this year maybe you could try for state
aide then. are you unable to work at all? can you do a sitting job? being a
cashier at home depot that has their own insurance that covers it is a good
choice. it's just hard to help you if there isn't any info to go on at all.

Mandy I feel for you I was a very heavy teenager myself who has done
everything to try to lose weight here I am 46 now and finally I will be
able to have the surgery myself. Here in Texas we have the Texas
Rehabilation Commission that you can go to for help with school, medical
and getting disablity benefits. Does your state have something like this I
have noticed several people on the message board for our state that are
getting surgery paid for by the rehab comm. it is worth a try. If you are
still living at home and going to college aren't you covered by your
parent's insurance. Good Luck to you.

Hello this is from a previous reply poster. I searched a little on Ohio and
found that when you were 18 you could have been eligible for medical
assistance. I think that the issue of being a dependent under your parents
may have excluded you though. As for now the only way to get Medical
assistance is for you to be on disability. Do a search online for SSI
eligibility requirements and they will state what are the guidelines for
determining disability. If that fits you maybe you should apply. Also in
many states there are protection and advocacy or people to assist with
filling out the disability application. If you don't fit into that
category, sometimes the cobra policy is different then the origional. The
other thing is that you may try and contact an attorney about appealing for
coverage. You may have already done this so don't be offended by my
suggestions. Peace be with you.

Mandy yes try the SSI I have a friend who was recently approved for health
problems caused by her obesity and she gets full medicaid. The problem is
that you cannot be able to work and have very little resources. Check out
the web for information on this and your state rehab comm. should be able
to help you with all the paper work and don't be discouraged they told my
friend everyone gets denied the 1st time and sometimes the 2nd so don't
give up. I'm praying for you.

PRAYER WORKS!!! I too, got down many times during the the fight for WLS. I
recently finally got approved. When I could do nothing further, I waited
and prayed and something woould happen to move the process further. Don't
give up! That's what the insurance co's want you to do. I know you will be
able to have this surgery someday. I'm in my early 40's now, but wanted
this surgery in my 30's, but I guess it just wasn't my time then. I know
you might not want to hear this, but your age is a boost for you. When you
get approved, you'll probably still be young and not have as much sagging
skin. I know you don't feel like going into detail today of your troubles,
but when you have questions, be sure to put them on here so everyone can
try to assisst you. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers. I know how the
wanting and waiting is........... I had to work on trying to get approved
for almost 3 yrs prior to being approved.
