Question:
I just wondered what you do???
I don't Drink with meals, but wondered how long you wait between. I usually wait 30 min. I just re-read the pouch rules and it says 1 1/2 hrs??? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks — luckyflowers (posted on January 10, 2004)

Sugar free popsicles have cured the dilemma I used to have about being
thirsty after a meal. My problem now is an addiction to popsicles. lol.
Seriously, I usually try to wait about 30-60 minutes and the popsicles help
me with that wait.

I usually have a very small sip of water when I'm done eating to rinse my
mouth out then I wait about a half hour or more to really begin drinking
again.

I drink up til the first bite. I SAY 30 minutes, but in reality often only
wait 15 minutes myself. If the food is in there that much time alone, I
can't wash it out. The danger is in bite-sip-bite-sip, IMHO.

I'll drink up to a few minutes BEFORE eating, but I always wait at least an
hour to an hour and a half after eating to drink. I really don't want to
wash the food out of my pouch, so I can stay full as long as possible.

I wait at least 30 minutes, but more often closer to an hour or more.
Usually if I can still "taste" (by burping) or feel that the food
is still in the pouch, I will hold off on having anything to drink. This
doesn't bother me at all any more.

I drink right up to meal time then wait at least 30 minutes after I eat but
usually its longer. I NEVER drink with my meals. I know a post-op who is
MO again and one of the things she did was drink with her meals. She did
this as a fresh postie. A big no-no. I some times chew a piece of sugarless
gum or brush my teeth after a meal to get the food taste out of my mouth.
That helps a lot. ~Sidney~ Open RNY 10-23-02 down 130+ and under goal

I am three days pre-op so I don't have any 'experience' to speak from ...
However, my surgeon and all of the staff say do not drink 30 minutes before
and for 30 minutes after any meal.

I am 7 months out from wls...I drink right up until I eat as the fluids do
not stay in my pouch for long at all.I drink about 15 minutes after I eat.
I can't drink with meals even if I wanted to, as it makes me throw up.
