Question:
Can bellybutton infections be linked to RNY?

I am not sure if you are talking about a fistula or something else. I have
a fistula and have had it for years so it is not related to the RNY I had
10/22/02. It drains on occasion and has a smell. My surgeon said it comes
from the bladder and as long as it doesn't bother me I don't need to worry
about it.

No, it is not directly connected to the surgery. It is directly related to
weight-loss. The tube of your belly button has been stretched out by years
of being over-weight and as you lose it stays the same length, but gets
kind of smooshed up (don't ya love technical terms? LOL). Moisture gets
trapped, air can't get in and wahlah, yeast/bacterial infections occur.
Get it documented by your PCP if you want to build a case for
reconstructive work down the road - and for future reference I find that
pouring a capful of hydrogen peroxide daily, helps keep this at bay.

My dogs antibiotic eardrops cured my belly button infction within one day.
I know it sounds wierd but it worked.
I do not recommend others do this. But it worked in a pinch. I was putting
ear drops in my poodles floppy ears while she tried to lick my belly
button, I guess it smells. Well I put a little of the ointment on my finger
and it was GONE!
