Don't mean to bash here..........I'm only three months post-op and definitely not an expert but taking 6 hours to eat a meal sounds like grazing to me. I think, even at this stage that if I spread it out over that length of time, I could eat a whole sub too. It would have to be in 3 oz portions but bet I could do it. You've done so well and you can definitely get where you need to be. I'd encourage you to read and follow the rules of the pouch and from everything I've read on this web site, you still have a very powerful tool to help you get where you need to go. If you're dealing with "head hunger" maybe you could check out seeing a counselor or joining OA or some other support group. YOU CAN DO IT..........Good luck to you and I do hope you find the answer for you.

Is your goal of 126 reasonable? I tried to find your height from your profile but did not see it. I know you said it was ideal, but trust me, those tables are way off base. You've already lost over 100 pounds and perhaps your body is comfortable where it is at. Keep in mind that you can get down to whatever weight you want to (no magic here, just eat less and move more) however, once you get there, is this something you can MAINTAIN for life?? You have to take in alot less calories to maintain a weight in the 120's than the 150's!! I love to eat too, and consciously decided to stop in the 140's and a size 10. The "ideal" weight for me was a good 15 pounds less. Yeah, an 8 or a 6 sounded tantalizing, but I knew i could not maintain without depriving myself of calories and my beloved snacks. With that said, if you want to lose more, its no secret. You need to eat several SMALL meals a day (every few hours) and try to make them protein based - the frozen meal without the carb part, the deli meats from the sub over a salad. A protein shake or two... How is your exercise? Heart pumping cardio will held get rid of calories, other types of exercise won't. And tons of water.

Hey ladies thanks so much for repsonding, first i think you are right maybe i was grazing on the sandwich i would eat until full, then when i got hungry again i would eat some more, stop... eat more... when my tummy started to growl. i don`t think it was head hunger i was getting stomach growling too....lol cindy i am 5'2.5" tall and the weight planner says i should weigh 126 maybe this is not a maintainable goal i never really thought about it, just figured that is where i should be, my doc says my bone structure is med/small....even at my highest weight i was very small in fingers and wrist size, but he also told me not to get obsessed and that i was very healthy from my blood work and look great.i am currently in a size 12 but would like to atleast hit the single digits....lol oh i must admit aside from walking the malls and taking the kids out and about through my day. i haven`t exercised since my hernia surgery in sept. but i did buy a walk away the pounds tape last night to start when i get back from vacation i hear it is a great work out i got the 2 mile high calorie burn tape.... again thanks for your input....open rny prox/w gallbladder removal 8/14/02 start weight 261.5/current 156 /goal 126?

Hi Nice, You must feel SO much better now- Congrats on the Weight loss. I am now going on 13 months post op- and its really hit me HARD- that from here on out- Its all up to ME-The honeymoon is over- and I am going ot have to live by diet/exercise/moderation (ugh) I too can eat ALOT- I can just sit and pick ALL DAY LONG If I want (this scares me to death) You will hear alot of different opinions about eatting "goodies" (subway sandwiches, etc) My opinion is GO FOR IT- don't deprive yourself. But practice moderation- I'm not going to sit and drool over someones french fries- darn it I'm going to have a few- :) ...When anyone in my house fixes themselves a bowl of ice cream, they know to come to me first for the first bite- Try to focus on where you were (look at pre op pictures of yourself) Stick one on your fridge- stick to the protein first- and don't knock yourself..Tomorrow is a new day :)

Hi, First of all you are not alone. This is the time when you have to learn what "using the tool" really means. I am 2 yrs post op and have started losing again. How? After being stuck for 8 mos I realized that this tool is usable and works BUT we have to learn how to use it. I started out by eating only protein for a few days. Now, it is just like it was in the beginning. Small portions fill me so quickly and dumping is a fact of life again. I think using the tool means "when you are not hungry.....don't eat!" Just use protein supplements and protein meals. Drinking water has always been hard for me so I do my best at that but NEVER get in 64 oz. Our pouches seem to react by what we feed it. Eating a lot is possible after a continuous amount of grazing and pushing the limit. BUT we can retrain the pouch. It is totally up to you and how you use the tool. Don't beat yourself up. Just start today choosing the good nutrition that your body craves. The tool is there, just use it properly. Hunger? After a few days of protein, it truly goes away. I am so busy at work that I forget to eat but force myself to drink a couple of Atkins shakes. They have improved them and they are now "spoon stirrable". The only difference on the container is the words "spoon stirrable". I mix them with water now and it is really tolerable. I also make a pudding with the shake mix and a little water. It is really filling. Good luck and remember, this is still a learning process and I guess it will be forever. No one is perfect but it is possible to lose again after even a year of not losing. Good luck!

Hey, sorry but there is no magic pill here. Calorie wise, that's probably only a 1200 or 1400 calorie day. You should track on fitday.com. You need to take time and plan your meals. If you do't eat convenience foods you'll have an easier time losing the rest of the weight.

You should start eating solid forms of protein... and stop with the high carb foods like Subway subs. You had part of your intestines surgically bypassed, and had part of your stomach cut away... you have NO business walking into a Subway store. Sorry, but you have to be serious about this surgery and eating properly is a major commitment. If you ate foods like roasted chicken, tuna salad, deli turkey or ham, cheese, fish, shrimp, sliced steak, omelets, roasted turkey... you wouldnt be able to eat as much, you would stay full much longer, you wouldnt crave more food, you would be satisfied, and you would lose weight again, as your body would revert back to a carb burning machine with its new protein fuel. By grazing until you eat an entire sub... your body isnt burning its stored fat, it is burning the carbs you are eating. De-carb your kitchen... start over... eat SOLID protein and regain control of your body and eating habits. Use protein shakes to boost your protein intake... protein consumption burns fat. Dont worry about people saying you are advertising... we all are excited to share new products with each other... and it is the only way we can find out about what tastes good and what doesnt. I am 29 months post op and have been posting on this forum and message board for almost three years and cannot tell you the number of great products that I have discovered and shared with others and the products that I am happy that people took to the time to share with me. ciao susan maria www.bariatriceating.com

Grazing is painless pouch stretching. If you limit your meal timem to about 15 minutes and dispose of the food, you'll find yourself eating a reasonable volume again, unless there is a mechanical flaw. That means no solid food for at least 2 hrs. I suspect that once you move the food and stick to the timing that you will actually feel MORE satisfied on less food. And not trigger the whole food=guilt cycle thing.

Thank you all! I have been experiencing the same thing as Nice here. It is great to know I am not alone with this, and that I have not blown my whole opportunity. I am back on track. Thanks, folks.

I agree with Michelle and Susan Maria - mostly. I agree you are taking waaaay too long to eat, hence eating too much. And most likely way too many carbs. However, I don't agree that you have to give up subway. As fast food goes (and many of us still do fast food occasionally), it's one of the lesser evils. I have been known every couple of months to order a 6 inch sub but I toss the most all of the bread. Sure I eat a smidge of it, but severly limit it to ONE BITE with bread and then away goes the bread. The guts of a subway are wonderful and high protein. Sure there are better options in the world, but I'm human (that's how I got to over 400 pounds to begin with) and I enjoy lunchmeat with lettuce and tomato. Oh you can order it as a salad in a container, but I find they give me way too much lettuce and not enough meat that way :>)

*original poster* Just wanted to say thanks for the advice and the brutal honesty.....lol i do not agree i should never step foot in a subway though, my doc told me i shouldn`t deprive myself of anything not even burgers and subways, i don`t eat like this everyday, but i do eat alot of carbs....i am a carb addict always have been and gain very quickly on carbs,i did think there was something wrong with my pouch when i stopped losing but found out everything is still good in there,i know i rearranged my insides i don`t need that told to me, but like a previous poster said i am human and have the same issues i had before surgery,i am trying to get on track and all this positive feedback can only help me on my way to goal, judging someone on the basis of one post about a subway sandwich is unfair though, i do not eat subway everyday not even once a week, in all honesty this was my first sub in 3 months....lol i will get back on track and thanks for the insight and the info to find my way back to the rules of living with bypass surgery, most times i forget i had it, until times like now when i want to lose and can`t and it is bc of my own lack of control where carbs are concerned, i think you are all great and i really appreciate the love and encouragement it is after midnight i am tired so off to bed i go....open rny 261.5/156/126 8/14/02

Never walk in another Subway again? NO WAY MAN! lol Granted I don't go often, however when I'm extremely hungery and along way from home I'll get a Deli Roast Beef sandwhich. I have it loaded with lettice, onions, TOMATOES (my favorite), black olives, sweet peppers (these are cooked not raw) and pickles. Oh with lots of Sweet Onion Sauce and YES EVEN OIL! I'm to much of a cheap skate to do this often, yet it is divine once in awhile. My goal was 123 (as I'm very short) but my body seems to like 157. So the "occasional" subway splurg has'nt hurt me. Don't get me wrong, I would'nt want to eat that much bread often, but it is loaded with veggies and I don't buy fresh veggies for home as I can't eat them all and they just go to waste. So Subway's deli subs are a smorgasborg of veggies! Yum! :)

We all fall off the wagon (most of us). Get right back on and watch the carbs. Best of luck to you, you are only human and we are not perfect.

I think I can speak for some of the others on here when I say that avoiding Subway all together is probably a good idea for your situation. If you are addicted to carbs you should avoid putting yourself in a situation where they may be available. Try to remember if you want a sub, go with the 6 inch rather than 12 that way the food is not there for you to continue to eat. Remember protein is our friend and watch those carbs. Good luck!

Nice, I am only 1/2 an inch taller than you, and also medium boned. My ideal was 130, which would have put me at a 6-8. My personal goal was 145, and I stopped between 147-149 and a size 10. Good enough for me. So, like I said, if you want to get to 126, with hard work you can, but think about it. Can you maintain 126?? I know I couldn't without eliminating my treats while still getting lots of compliments for the size I am at! As for Subway, truthfully, if we have to avoid all the Subways and fast foods and treats in the world, come on...Nothing wrong with Subway or a fast food place, or french fries or whatever. Moderation is the key. I know some avoid like the plague and if thats what they need to do, OKay but for the rest of us, learning moderation is a wonderful thing...

Hey cindy, in my opinion avoiding fast food forever is unrealistic for me...but i will cut out alot of my carb intake first of the year i don`t know if i can maintain at 126 but i will have to see when i get there...lol if not i won`t be disappointed as even at my weight now i feel and look good so no biggie...but i have to try i won`t know i can until i give it a shot.....boy i didn`t know a subway sandwhich would become such a hot topic...lol i won`t be doing that again though now that i know i was grazing i thought grazing was like snacks and stuff, not meals i guess i was wrong, hey you live and learn...thanks for everyone`s advice and support it is greatly appreciated...wish me luck on vacation leaving soon....love and blessing open rny 8/14/02 261.5/156/126 16 months postop on the 14th
