Well I know every Doctor has a different food plan, so I can't say for sure. But my surgreon recommends a minimum of 60-80 grams of protein a day.

My surgeon has also recommended 60 grams or more per day. I have averaged 80-100 grams a day since very early on with the help of shakes and I have never had a plateau and even though I am within 5-10 pounds of my goal and the weight loss has SLOWED down considerably it is still going if I work at the protein and stear clear of the carbs. I am not sure how much you have to go but these last 20 or so pounds have been really hard to lose. Lap RNY 1/15/03 277/156/150ish

Good Morning! I'm 9 months post op and my daily intake of protein averages around 70-80. No less than 60! Of course, my water is 64-80 ozs a day. Exercise!!! A Must! Up until my 6th month post op visit I was only getting 50 grams protein a day, due to the fact I mis understood my surgeon....My fault. She said no less than 50 and I thought she said 50. I could have been to goal long before my 9th month. I'm only 8 pounds to goal and have till 2/11/04 to get there and I will! I just had Breast Reduction surgery 2 weeks ago today, so no exercise for 4-6 weeks. Due to my healthy eating and drinking during these last 9 months my BR had gone great and the healing is ahead of schedule. I have at least one carb solution(protein drink) a day....easy 21 grams protein/1 gram sugar/2 net carbs for the 11 ozs. I can eat anything, but I don't. I have never looked at food as before surgery. I eat to live and not live to eat. In fact, I have never missed or craved the old comfort foods. The taste of foods are still the same as they were the 1st few weeks after surgery. A blessing! lol I just plain and simple make myself eat, because I have to. Exercise has helped me loose tons of inches and tone up, plus help in weight loss, also. I love feeling healthy once more. I control what goes into my mouth now. It no longer controls me! Good Luck! There is a formula that my dietitian used to calculate how many grams of protein I should eat a day. It's based on your weight. I'm sorry, I don't know the formula, but maybe someone else does. An earlier dietitian (who I don't think knew very much) said I should get 60 grams of protein a day. The new dietitian, using the formula, and considering the level of exercise I get, said I need at least 70 grams a day. So it varies depending on who you ask, even for the same patient! If you have access to a good dietitian, you might want to make an appointment and get some professional advice on this point.

I'm not sure if it's different for different forms of WLS, but I'm a DS post-op, and I get in between 75 and 100 grams of protein daily - minimum. Some days I get in as high as 150 grams of protein. Just depends. But never less than 75 grams. Hope that helps! Blessings, dina
