Question:
Has anyone had a DOBUTAMINE STRESS ECHO?
Has anyone had a DOBUTAMINE STRESS ECHO without having to do the treadmill, just the Dobutamine medicine with a goal of 153 heart rate, and did not make the goal, and still was cleared for surgery. My goal was 153 I went to 130 before they stopped the medication. — jimnetta N. (posted on November 21, 2003)

Yes - I had this test. I was told that I needed to hit 80% of rested rate,
and then the cardiologist bumped it to 85%. This set the target at a
heartrate of 145. I peaked at 138, and then then gave me another med to
override my brain signal to the heart to slow down. After that kicked in, I
made it to 148 and the picture was good. Then we all sat there while the
second drug wore off and then the 1st drug wore off. Basically the test was
not very bad, but it was strange to have such an elevated heart rate and
breathing normally. I had the surgery exactly 6 months ago and have lost
83 pounds. Good luck to you...~LP

Yes, I also had this type of stress test because I couldn't do the
treadmill due to inability to walk. I did NOT like the test at all and
really felt the stress - got all sweaty and anxious. My cardiologist was
there to monitor me all the way but still I was very upset. I did make it
up to the # they wanted and had the surgery 9/10/03. I have lost 54 lbs.
since and really feel great. Now I am able to walk and am enjoying each
new day as it comes. Best wishes to you on your journey.
