Question:
ANYONE NOT LOST ANY WEIGHT AFTER YOUR 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY?

Hi, I am only 9 mths post op from having lap rny, and I have lost 129# so far but I also started out at 322, quite a bit higher. So, I believe it just depends on where you started out at too, but you have done great so far! I have heard ppl who have lost past their one year anniversary, so I believe if you want to lose more than you probably will, just hang in there, I heard that we start to slow down after a year or so it takes alittle longer and you have until your 18th month of opportunity to so do! Good Luck to you, like I said you are doing wonderfully!

I am 14 months post op open rny now and I am loosing quite slowly. I got to the point where I thought that I could eat to much and quite frankly was....so I went to that pouch rules for dummies site and did the plateau buster thing in there and now I am back to dumping (which I never have done very severely) and not eating very much at once. It has helped a lot and I am loosing again. It is much slower but still loosing. Peggy open rny 9/20/02 -150lbs

I pretty much stopped losing at month 11. Then again, I was at my goal so I think your body shuts off when it gets down to what it feels is appropriate for you to weigh.

I am just at a year. I haven't lost anything since May, and I am far from my goal. My surgeon says I may be "done"; that this is where my body wants to be. We also talked about plastic surgery. I want to try to lose more weight, and his response was that it was all up to me now. (Which I know and have known!) I don't see any reason that I can't start losing again. I am at a weight where I spent several years after the birth of my second child.

I am almost 3 years post op. I stopped losing at about the one year point and spent the next year going up and down with the same 5 pounds. I settled in at about -135 from my highest pre-op weight. When I went to the doc for my physical in August I was up about 12 pounds from my lowest weight. I am currently doing the Atkins diet to try to take off those 12 pounds and more importantly ... head off any further regain. I was nowhere close to goal (ie "chart weight") when I stopped losing. While I am delighted with the 135 pound loss, and am much healthier and happier at my current weight ... I am still medically classified as morbidly obese. My BMI hovers right around 40 (started at 60+ ... so was super MO). A lot of people on here will tell you that anyone can get to "goal" if you are willing to work the tool, follow the rules, etc, etc. I disagree. I think some of our bodies are extremely resistant to weight loss past a certain point. I am pretty compliant (heaven knows not perfect), but was unable to "jumpstart" my weightloss past the amount lost at about the 1 year point. Even at 3 years out I still do very well avoiding sugar and getting in lots of water. I had let too many refined carbs creep into my diet, but I have recently remedied that. I had a very proximal RNY ... so maybe I needed a more radical procedure ... I don't know if it would have made any difference. I apologize for the long post, but I wanted to post this so that others (I know you are out there) whose weight loss stalled out at the one year point wouldn't feel that they are alone or a failure. Even with my stats I am still classified as a "success" having maintained a loss > 50% of my excess. With any other weight loss method, I would have regained 100% or more by this point. I hope this helps.

Nothing after about 9 months post op for me. I lost about 120 since then have been up and down the scale a range of about 12 lbs. I agree with the last poster. I think some of us reach a certain weight and then become very resistant to losing any more and I don't know why. Even if I exercise, I cant lose more than just a couple of lbs and the minute I let up I will gain them back. I also never made it anywhere near goal. I stoped at about 50 lbs over goal. Still considered obese but not morbid. Health problems greatly improved so I am a success story.

I have lost 9 more pounds since my 1 year anniversary, which is 21 pounds below my original goal. It doesn't appear that I have stopped yet, it is just very slow now.

That would be me, too! Surgery July 2002, haven't really lost anything since July 2003. I go up a couple, down 1, up 3, down 2, etc., staying so far in the same 5 pound range. BMI still puts me in obese, 40 pounds from goal. I also am sitting at the weight I was after my first child which was a "stable" weight for a couple of years for me. I started the last upward spiral after my 2nd child. It sure seems to me as well that my body went back to it's last stable weight and here I sit. I haven't taken any drastic steps yet, still contemplating what I want to do differently to see if I can start losing again. I'm planning to increase exercise this week as that is an area where I am VERY lax.
