I used,"the wooden spoon" for the first 2 weeks after surgery and
it was a blessing. It is used to take care of your hygiene issues. I hear a
lot of people saying that they never needed it, but, boy, I did.I had open
RNY and so I had a large incision site that made it difficult to twist and
turn. I guess it just depends on your physical limitations. I NEVER had any
problem pre-op,but I was worried and wanted to be prepared for the post-op.
I used baby wipes on the end of my spoon and it worked nicely. DON'T FLUSH
THEM !
Congatulations on your up-coming surgery!

Me again, I had open also with a huge incision. I think it probably
depends on how large you are at surgery.

I used barbecue tongs! I think my arms are probably shorter than most and
the twisting/turning was painful. The barbecue tongs are at least 3-4
inches longer than the spoon, and the t.p. doesn't fall off because you can
"grab" it. Plus, stainless steel is easier to clean!
