Question:
Does anyone else love spicier food since WLS?

I always liked spicy food before WLS - now it seems the spicier the better. Anyone else have this ?    — laurab (posted on October 27, 2003)

Yes, I always liked spicy food but now I crave it. I eat peppered beef jerky, any type of mexican food, if we are out and my husband wants to eat out he knows it has to be mexican cause that's about all I eat out. RS Lap rny 4/2002 -130lbs

OMG YES!!! I never really was a "big" eater on spicy food before WLS. I have noticed since my surgery {June 26, 2003} I crave it. I LOVE spicey food now, I especially like salsa from the mexican restaurants OMG it makes my mouth water. LOVE IT!!

I never was a big spicy person before my SWL but now I am too. Isn't that weird! Have a great day! Deanne

The spicier the better. I have always liked spiced foods but can't get them spicy enough now.

I have always enjoyed hot food, but like it more now. Especially since the quantity is lower, I like to get more "bang for my buck!"

Me, too! I figure since I get to eat such small quantities now, I want to eat only food that tastes really good. Spice seems to add pleasure to my little meals. I never ate particularly hot food before, but I recently made my own homemade hot sauce so I can have exactly the flavor I want. I also put garlic and onion and ground pepper and herbs on everything. The more flavor, the better! My desire for spice seems to be in inverse proportion to my desire for sweet and salty--most things just taste too sweet or too salty to me now. I hope this keeps up!

NOOOO! I put onions and garlic on about everything for flavor, but hot n spicy causes me to regurgitate. I can eat tacos but I dont make it extra hot or spicy and cajun seasoning is a definite no no for me. I am pickier about what I eat and since I dont eat that much anymore I want good quality food.

God yes! I thought I was the only one. I've always loved spicy food, although NOT blistering hot. Since WLS I've gone to taco bell more in a couple years than since the years since they've been around. I absolutely CRAVE spicey foods and the tingling in the taste buds from it. What I really crave the most is the CORN AND BEAN SULSA that Walmart sells. It's mild (but still spicy). I'd kill for the favor burst that offers. Seems that spicy foods, tomatoes and black pepper are awesome now.

Preop, my tastes were more on the sweet or salty side. Now at a postop, I like savoury/seasoned/lightly spiced foods. I've been without sweets for so long now that anything even slightly sweet tastes too sweet for me. Bring on the meal, I'll skip the dessert LOL.

I really like Michele's answer! I would have never even thought of that as a pre-op!

I loved it!. I will have soup (tomato, no salt added) and add hot sause, hot peppers, onions, red peppers and FF Cheese. It's liquid so my mouth does not burn. If I mouth is burning I will have a SF candy until I can drink my water. At times I get cold so eating hot spices helps me. I can say I have at least on meal a day like this. I'm 6 months post-op and I'm down from 318 lbs to 195 lbs.
