Question:
Is there any reason why we can't get flu shots?

I am six weeks post op and just had my flu shot by my PCP. I sure don't
want to take ANY chances on getting sick this early in my recovery. No
reactions to the shot. I would say that if you doctor says it's OK then
just do it.

My surgeon recommends them.

I am 2 1/2 months post-op, and I called my surgeon and asked if I could get
the flu shot, and they recommend that I do, so I got my shot yesterday, I
am kinda tired this morming, but I usually feel crappy for a couple of days
after my flu shot.

I was going to get one, then remembered I better check with my doctor's
office. My surgeon does not recommend getting one until you're 3 months
out from surgery. I just had my surgery on 9/11/03, so I guess I won't be
getting one until December. I'm not sure why she feels this way, but I
didn't question it, as I really trust her judgment.

I had a flu shot at almost 5 months PO and had no problems, but you should
ALWAYS ask your bariatric surgeon these questions.

Hi, all, I wasn't sure if anyone else was aware of this, but you shouldn't
get the flu shot if you're allergic to eggs. I don't remember exactly how
the vaccine is grown, but it has to do with eggs, so if you're allergic to
them, you shouldn't get the shot.

I just wanted to throw this out because for the last couple years
my doc has recommended that I get a flu shot, but I didn't. I almost did
last year, but I learned early last year that I'm allergic to several
foods, including eggs, and then I heard on the radio that people with egg
allergies shouldn't get it. I checked this out with one of the doctors at
the lab where I work, and she confirmed it.

Anyway, I just wanted to let y'all know in case anyone is allergic
to eggs out there!

I'm a pre-op, and I was at Kaiser yesterday giving my PCP the referral
papers I got at their WLS class Monday. They recommended I get a flu shot
and the nurse asked me a battery of questions, including whether or not I'm
alergic to eggs. I asked if I should get shot before my labs & dr said
it was OK.

I am having surgery 12/12/03 (7 weeks from today) and had a flu shot last
monday. I called the doc. before I got the shot and asked if it was alright
and they said sure.

i'm 31 days out and got my flu shot without problems. the only caution i
would put out there is that if a person develops a sensitivity to eggs post
op, then perhaps a flu shot is not the best decision.
