Question:
I had lap RNY on the 9th of October
I wanna know if the gassy feeling, the burping, and the chest "pain" will soon subside. I had Lap RNY on October 9th. I would appreciate anyone with any advice to email me at [email protected]. I am feeling so down and wondering why I did this to myself. — Stacie M. (posted on October 16, 2003)

You just a week out. When I had my surgery I was in the hospital 6 days;
so you would be 3 days now. NORMAL recovery for surgery is 4 to 6
weeks!!!! You had major surgery; even if it was LAP your INSIDES ARE THE
SAME AS SOMEONE WHO HAD AN OPEN!! Its going to take a while to 'feel'
normal again; At least by the end of week two you should feel better...
Hang in there. Just REST, take things slowwwwwwwww .

I had the same feeling, except at 2 months, it still didn't subside. I
talked to my doctor, and he prescribed Prilosec for reflux. That helped
tremendously. But for you, at one week out, it just may be a healing
process. Good luck!

You could be trapping air. Are you drinking from a straw? That seemed to
be the worst thing I could do. It caused too much air to be inside, so I
had to burp to get it up and it did cause chest pain. I had the same
thing, and it will subside over time. I am 7 months post op and had the
same feelings of wondering why I did this to myself, but now I would do it
again in a heartbeat. Hang in there, I know it is hard, but it will get
better.
