Question:
Does cholesteral medication thin your blood?
I know we aren't supposed to take any blood thinning things before surgery(aspirin, herbs),I assume that this doesn't include cholesteral meds? — natalie J. (posted on October 14, 2003)

Hi, Natalie: I was on Lipitor before surgery for high cholesterol, and I
was able to take it right up until surgery, but I've been off of it ever
since. My surgeon had me discontinue it after surgery, which was 08/19/03.
I haven't had my labs done, so I don't know if my cholesterol's improved
or not. It will be interesting to find out! Good luck!

They are two different types of medication. According to my local
hospital's web site the cholesteral meds will help lower the amount of
cholesteral in your blood. No where did I find that it affects or causes
the blood to thin like Coumadin or Warafin does.
