Question:
belching & pain problem 4 weeks post op?
My stomach hurts most of the time and whenever I drink or eat anything I have to belch...which leads to nausea and sometimes vomiting. I don't believe I'm eating/drinking too fast. I take small bites and chew very well. I also am taking very small sips. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks — SJP (posted on October 11, 2003)

I had this same problem and still have it at 9 weeks. If I belch I
sometimes throwup as well. I am told to take very small sips that I might
be drinking to fast so I guess heed that advice. You are only 4 weeks so
your pouch is still probably swollen this will get better with time. Talk
to your doctor.

SJP: I burped non-stop early post op. Mostly from drinking water. My
daughter quickly got to HATE driving in the car with me because it was a
never ending burp fest until we got where we were going. I got tired of it
too, but I didn't have a choice. I just stopped doing it one day and
didn't even realize it until I thought back and said hey I'm not burping
all the time anymore. I NEVER threw up preop. I wonder if I had been
normal I would have been throwing up from drinking to fast but burped
instead? I honestly can't say. I didn't have any pain or nausea, just the
annoying burping. I would guess you will just stop doing it soon, but you
might want to get a scope and see if there's something not quite right. Do
talk to your doctor about it and see what they say. Good luck. S

Yep, I burped a lot also. But it soon stopped. I also found that it came
from having to take such small sips so early out, but now that I am almost
8 weeks out I have stopped burping most of the time, and when I do it feels
good! Good luck!

I did have the same problem, but mine continued to a more severe problem.
At five weeks out, I noticed that food was just not sitting right and would
burp a lot and then I began to vomit most things I put into my mouth. I
went back on clear liquids and vomitted those up also. Then I could not
even keep down water or even ice chips. I called my doctor after 3 days
and he sent me the ER where I had a scope and they found that my stoma was
beginning to close, so I had a procedure to reopen it with a balloon and
after that I felt wonderful and did not vomit or even have as much gas.
Keep an eye on it and call your doctor if you feel something is wrong.
Good Luck
