Question:
What is a post op Upper GI supposed to look like?
I had an upper GI done yesterday because of some cramping type pains near the top of where my pouch should be. My question is, what is a posties upper GI supposed to look like? I could see part of it on the monitors but couldn't clearly make out much of anything except my esopagus and the top part of my pouch...after that it just turned into a big swirly black & white mess. Does anyone have copies of their post op upper GI films online to share? Still waiting for my doc's office to check the films & get in touch with me. — Rhoni333 (posted on October 10, 2003)

When I had my leak test the day after surgery that was all we could really
see too...beyond the pouch outlet it was all pretty much a blur. I would
think that if something were extremely out of the ordinary though, they
would have gotten back to you by now. Good luck!

I have a CD of my upper GI which was made when I had staple line
disruption. I called Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV and asked for
copies of the films but to my surprise, all of this stuff is kept on CD
now. I have considered contacting one of the moderators here to see if
they would like to have it so that people could see what a staple line
disruption looks like. It is very obvious in the picture that the pouch
filled up with barium and then overflowed into the old stomach. I have
since had a revision to a transected pouch and I have films of my upper GI
after the "fix" of the sld. It is very wierd to watch the
disruption and barium in motion. Also it is eery because the time on the
upper GI is 9:00 am on 9/11/2001. The exact time of the 911 tragedy.
Strange. The big swirly black & white mess is probably the colon or
small intestine that you are seeing???? If I could figure out how to
download the pictures, I would put them on my profile to help others.
