I have had this too, and have found that most of the time I was simply
thirsty. You don't need to have anything too heavy, try and Atkins shake,
water, or even a cup of Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa (no sugar added), the warmth
might help you sleep. It doesn't happen to me much at all anymore. Good
luck!

I personally have had good experience with GNC's Pro Performance 100% whey
protein UNFLAVORED. I add it to a glass of milk and a little chocolate
milk powder and it is 30 grams of protein that way. If you don't like it
you can return it - even opened and a little bit used. I know before
surgery I had a habit of wakeup and eat, so be aware that you may be
responding to old patterns instead of true hunger.

I have had this twice since surgery. Once, I couldn't fall asleep because
I was so hungry and once I woke up feeling very hungry. Both times, I
eventually got out of bed, had something small, and proceeded to fall right
back to sleep. No big deal!

I am two months post op and I was hungry in the middle of the night from
the first week home from surgery. Your new tummy is hungry about every two
to three hours and you do not put anything in it for 7 or 8 hours, it is
going to get hungry. What i started doing is having a little something
before I go to bed and it works great. A bit of protein bar, a slice of
cheese, a vienna sausage, alittle tuna fish. I make it high protein, and it
keeps me full through out the night, and my blood sugar stays within the
numbers in the morning. I do not drink a protein shake, it does not stay
with you through the night. I drink EAS Metroplex, with the light silver
front. They can be opened and put in the freg, and finished later and they
have great choices in flavors, I love the new Strawberry Banana. Atkins
comes in a can so you have to drink all 11 oz'z at a time, because you can
not re-mix it, and it has a after taste that I do not like. Hope this
helps

I have had this happen to me a few times when I didn't have a protein snack
before bedtime. The first time I woke up with a terrible pain in my
stomach. I sat up for a long time and couldn't get it to stop. Then, I
remembered that I read on this site where someone posted that their stomach
aches were from hunger. So I ate a small snack and it went away. Now I try
to make sure and have a hight protein snack before bed.

It sounds like your are either hungry or your blood sugar has dropped too
low or too fast. Like the other responders said, eat something before you
go to sleep. My nutritionist said that Adkins supplements are too high in
fat and might cause dumping. Slim-fast definately will cause dumping
because of the sugar in it. I have found the web site vitalady.com to be a
very good site to buy samples. Also, the nutritional product forum on this
site is great. Lots of opinions there. Personally I like EAS Carb Control
drinks. I get them already prepared at WalMart. I had to try quite a few
before I found one that I could tollerate. Good luck on your search.
