Question:
Is the meat beef?
My surgeon suggest that I not eat beef for the first year. I was wondering is the meat in the Wendy's Chili beef? — Just P (posted on September 25, 2003)

Yes the meat is beef, but it is pulverized, cant really even be called
meat. Our protocol calls for no beef also, but I started eating Wendys
chili at about 3 weeks post op, still enjoy it today.

What is his logic for no beef for a year. Beef has lots of iron in it and
my surgeon told me to try and put more into my diet at my 6 month visit. I
have been eating chopped beef since about 3-4 weeks out. I tried steak at
3 months but no go. Now I tolerate steak just fine but need to chew well
and go slow. Most surgeons assume we won't tolerate it but I have heard of
some people tolerating beef better than chicken or turkey. So figure out
what works for your body. As long as it's lean protein and you can keep it
down it's fine. Just go easy!

My surgeon's nutritionist says no red meat for the first 6 months basically
she means steak, as it is more fibrous and not as easily digested.

I used to work at Wendy's and the meat in the Chili is overcooked hamburger
patties, that have been boiled and chopped up.

I ate Wendy's chili at about 5-6 weeks post op but found it absolutely
repulsive! I can't even stand to think about it, my stomach gets queezy.
I am sure it's ground beef in the chili, and maybe it just didn't agree
with me, but I know of others that love it and do very well with it even
before 6 months.
