Question:
My triglycerides were high. My doctor told be I needed to be on medication(lipitor)

My triglycerides were high. My doctor told be I needed to be on medication(lipitor)for 4 weeks then check my levels again. If they are under control they can do surgery. Has anyone else had this problem? Did the lipitor bring you levels down. Mine were....449. Im so sad and embarrassed. Thanks. Anita    — A C. (posted on September 6, 2003)

Mine was high before surgery and I did'nt need to bring mine down. Sometime before surgery (not sure how long) it was at 388. It went down under 200 after wls pretty quick.

I was on lipitor before surgery and it did bring down my levels somewhat. What really made the difference in my cholesterol and trigycerides was having the surgery. Before wls my cholesterol was 298, at 6 months post-op it was 178, my triglycerides were so high they could not be recorded, now they are 99! Take the meds, they will help. And get this surgery. It will save your life. Good luck!

Yes, Lipitor is so helpful! I had high cholesterol and triglycerides, and my PCP prescribed it for me. It was so mortifying, being 30 years old and on Lipitor, but I took it, and my next blood test showed my chol. dropped down about 40-50 points! My first blood test post-op showed my cholesterol to be 128, and so I was taken off Lipitor. Best wishes for you!

Darling girl, no shame and no embarrassment. Think of this as the time in your life when you're squarely facing your health needs, so you should feel great about your courage and your future. Go get 'em!!!

Mine were high, as was my cholesterol pre-op. My PCP wanted to put me on meds for it. i asked him to wait til post op to see what would happen. Well, my cholesterol went down 100 points to 180 and my triglycerides are also in the normal range. I would give the lipitor a shot, it worked for me in the past. Be aware however that it can affect your liver and you need frequent blood work to monitor yourself. I went off of it due to leg cramping which is another side effect. Good luck.
