I am 7 months post op, and have terrible insomnia, have had it for months.
I don't think it has to do with vitamins...not sure though

Hi Beth-
I had trouble sleeping starting at about two months out...couldn't fall
aleep easily, and then also woke up drenched in sweat (not menopause hot
flashes). My doc had me start eating a small protein snack (like an ounce
of cheese or 1/2 shake) an hour before bedtime and that helped a lot. Give
it a try--I hope this helps! -(Lap RNY 23-Jan-2003 246/156)

There's a chewable calcium citrate called Viactive that everyone says taste
great; you can find them anywhere. You MUST get your vitamins in, it's so
important! I noticed on your profile that you had insomnia pre-op, too. Did
you ever get tested for sleep apnea? It would be unusual for you to still
have it, but you never know. I find I need much less sleep now, but that
doesn't sound like what you're going through. If you do a search at
google.com you will get a lot of info on it. Good luck!

The Viactiv product is calcium carbonate, not calcium citrate and we all
know that calcium citrate is what is best absorbed by us WLS patients.

Alittle more info would be helpful. How are you having trouble sleeping?
Tossing because you hurt? Cannot get to sleep? Keep waking up early?
Terrible dreams/nightmares? There are so many things that could be
involved to make it possible to provide some advice. An ice pack on the
sore back and take some tylenol before bed; a sleeping aid of like a low
dose anti-depressant (works good and is not addictive); an anti-depressant
during the day because your symptoms are really depression symptoms etc.
etc. Go talk to your PCP and see what they think. I'm sure he or she will
have some ideas/suggestions and/or meds.

Hi. I have looked and asked about chewable cal cit, but with no luck.
Vitamin World does have the liquid version of cal cit in 4 flavors though.
Hope this helps. Don't take Viactive. Wrong kind of calcium.

Shari, coral calcium is calcium carbonate, the wrong kind for us. We need
calcium CITRATE.

Twin Labs makes a calcium citrate chewable. It is kind of like giant sweet
tarts. I bought it at wild oats and then vitamin shoppe. Lynda ME/FL
