Question:
Star Jones going for the RNY?

Hi friends, I heard on the radio at work today that Star Jones from the talk show "The View" is taking time off for the gastric bypass surgery and the producer of the show, Barbara Walters, will be having the whole thing documented. Just wondering if anyone else has heard any news on this topic? I'm so happy for her, she's beautiful and has a great personality, but health problems are probably catching up with her, like most MO people. Hugs, Kim S. I saw this on tv and it is true about Star! I'm sure she has developed some medical problems, but it was told that Payless Shoes, whom she's a spokes person for told her "She had to Slim down or had to Go" Nothing at this time was mentioned about health problems. I don't watch The View on a regular basis, but what I have seen.... I can tell you this... Star is a very independent person and tells it like she sees it. I doubt her having this procedure was to solely satisfy Payless Shoes, although money talks. And, I'm sure she gets big bucks! She is a beautiful person as she is, but I can only imagine her beauty afterwards. She had put this pocedure down on air after Al Roker had it performed. Funny, how things come back to bite you in the ass, Oops, did I say that? I meant tush! lol Have a good one. Lap RNY ..2/11/03...250/158/145

I heard this rumor on the message board also, but no more then a month ago I was watching the veiw and she said she would NEVER have wls. The show could have been a repeat and maybe she has changed her mind, but till I "see" her say it I do not believe it. She was completely against it for HER. She said she wasn't putting down anyone that had wls, just that she would never do it. If anyone saw her say it, please let me know, I have to admit I am curious.

this in today's news: "Carnie Wilson did it. Al Roker did it. And Star Jones may be next: The New York Post reports that Jones, co-host of The View, is considering having gastric bypass surgery, a procedure that helps severely overweight patients slim down by reducing the size of their stomachs, thus restricting how much food the patient can consume. The operation -- which, like any surgical procedure, is not without potential risks and side effects -- has had a considerable PR boost lately due to several celebrities' high-profile success stories. The Post claims that, once Jones has had the surgery, her View co-star Barbara Walters will document the results for an ABC news special. However, Jones' spokesperson can neither confirm nor deny the report: "I don't comment on my stars' personal lives." Yes -- and what could be more personal than sharing your invasive medical procedures with everyone in North America?" I was surprised too when I heard this, because she has always been a very proud woman and not ashamed of her size. But I too at one point said that "weight loss surgery would never be for me" and "it's the easy way out" and "I don't eat because I'm hungry, I eat because I enjoy it"......... Well, a little over a year after I said these comments (and many others I'm sure) I hit my rock bottom and decided after researching (VERRRY cautiously) that WLS was indeed for me and now a little over a year out from having a RNY I am at goal, I went from a size 26 to a size 8 and I love myself again! I am healthy and happy and would do it all over again. If Star is going to have the surgery, we can't bash her for comments made prior to educating herself on the procedure. Heavy or thin it all boils down to health, and for me health was starting to become a concern, now I eat to live NOT live to eat.

Guess we will find out sometime in the future if it is rumor or truth. She is a beautiful and intelligent woman and carries herself beautifully. I seem to recall her being against this too, however, stars are also entitled to change their minds too. I admit, I'm curious to know what she would look like after WLS. Speaking of stars, I saw Al Roker this morning, and have never seen him lookin' better or lookin' happier!

One of the women in my support group has a friend who had bypass 2 or 3 weeks ago. She told me that while her friend was in the hospital Star was there and had the "band" done.

Haven't heard this but if it's true -- more power to the Star! If it makes her healthier that's even better. We shall see if she starts getting smaller PDQ.
