Question:
Need to know if there is a website where it lists if Surgeon has had COMPLICATIONS ?
Hi= I am trying to find out if area docs where I live are categorized and have their COMPLICATIONS or DEATHS listed? This is most important in picking out a surgeon as I am super concerned about this..... — andy S. (posted on August 28, 2003)

I don't know of a place, but I would be interested in knowing where we can
share information about surgeons we know have had patients with major
complications. It wasn't my surgeon but a friend of the family had WLS
last June and has had many complications and almost died several times.
She is still not recovered but her surgeon left the state earlier this
year. So now people in the new state would have no idea to check his
record in the state he used to practice in.

If memory serves me right the American Medical Association website has
links were you can look up any physician's track record. I think the site
is www.ama.org

You can also call your state's licensing board and find out if any
complants or sanctions have been placed against a doc. They become public
knowledge.

Since you're from virginia, use this site:
http://www.vahealthprovider.com/ You can see when you find your doctor if
any pending claims are against him or if he's had any lawsuits settled
against him.
