Question:
Question about the stoma
Yesterday, someone asked how the stoma can get stretched. One of the answers was that it can be stretched by drinking with your meals. Please explain how that is possible? I would think it would be the opposite. Just curious... — Kay W. (posted on August 28, 2003)

Your question proves that we must each do thorough research before we make
decision. Just because you hear it, read it or even see it, does not make
it true. One other part of my research is I make it pass my reasonablness
test. What is the bottom line. You state the obvious. How could liquids
stretch the stoma. In my opinion it is not reasonable to believe it is so.

I have to concur with Fay, that it seems impossible for liquids to stretch
the stoma. Frequent stuffing and overeating is known to be a cause of
stretching. I often see advice here that I question and often times will
go back to a poster (separately and not in front of others on the board)
and ask them where they are getting their info from.
