Question:
Adding Bread to my Diet

I am at the point in my weight loss that I would like to add in some bread. Anyone have suggestions of a good whole grain, high fiber, low carb/low fat bread?    — Nan G. (posted on August 24, 2003)

Hi Nan, you might want to give Ezekeal Bread a try. Its a sprouted grain bread. You can find it at places like Trader Joe's or Sprouts. I haven't tried it myself yet but people have told me it has a chewy texture and its pretty tasty. Good luck!

My friend just told me about a Natural Ovens bread that has lots of protein per slice. She said it's a little dry to eat plain but toasted it is awesome! Be cautious of having bread too often. I usually only eat bread when I go out as buying a whole loaf would go to waste in my house.

There is also a "light" whole wheat bread from Orowheat I think. It's 40 calories per slice, with 7g of fiber per serving (one serving is 2 slices). The slices are smaller than regular bread but I like it.

I am unhappy with the earlier answers...except for the first one. ;) Ezekial Bread is a true whole-grain unrefined carb bread. All the others are white flour with a brown crayon melted in (as Lucy used to say to Linus). Find a health food store that carries fresh breads, or find a food co-op in your community, always whole grain breads there. Read labels on all other store-bought breads. And BTW, you can always take one slice from a frozen loaf...and eat it! No worries about buying the whole loaf, just pop it in the freezer!
