Question:
This is for the guys!!

I asked this question yesterday when the board was moving slowly, so I am certain it got overlooked. I was just wondering if you guys lose your hair, too? I've never seen any of you mention it. There is no purpose to my question, other than I am curious. Thanks for answering!! Shelley    — Shelley. (posted on August 18, 2003)

i am not a guy but right after I read your question yesterday, some guy posted on the message board about his hair loss and I have seen a lot of guys say they have hair loss. It will come back. I am nearly bald-headed myself(LOL)

Well...since I haven't much to lose (as far as hair goes), I don't suppose I would notice it. I would be glad to get rid of the lbs, if hair loss is a side effect...so be it.

I know that some of the men at my support group have said they lost hair, some said the lost body hair too.

I am 13 weeks out and have lost 80 pounds so far and very little of my hair. I am 35 and have a good head of it so I worry about losing it but luckily only a miniscule amount has shed. To be honest, it might just be a normal amount of shedding for me and Im only now noticing it cuz Im so paranoid about it!

I have very curly hair and hate it. Even hair straigteners make it worse. So I bought a hair cutting kit and shave most of it off so it's only around one inch long. So personally I did'nt care if I lost hair or not. Actually I was hoping I would. Nope! Not any hair loss at all! But then, I ate alot of meat and cheese. That may have helped. But then again, I'm of the opinion that if we are going to lose hair, we will lose it. Perhaps it's genectics? I don't know, but I never lost any. Perhaps if I had feared it, I would have. lol

My DH is about 5 months out from RNY and his thinning hair has gotten thinner. I keep telling him that as he shrinks, the hairs on his head will get closer together! He's hoping at least some of it grows back.

I dropped 80 pounds my first month and didn't lose any hair. Around my 10th week, I noticed that there were some strands in the shower and in my brush, but it stopped after a few days. Also, a little more than 2 months after an ER admission, I again noticed that there were some strands in the shower and in my brush, but that once again stopped after a few days. Short answer-- no hair loss to speak and I'm down 247 pounds in 10 months.
