Question:
Ok I'm on to the eating food part now that I'm 7wks out....
My Dr. said to get about 70 grams of protein and 30 grams of fiber a day. I could be way of base but isnt food high in fiber also higher in carbs? Any input would be great. Thanks — luckyflowers (posted on August 14, 2003)

The way that I tried to get in some fiber was to have chili or beans every
few days; that way, I would be loading my carbs on one day and would be
able to have relatively few carbs on the other days.

At 7 weeks out you may not be able to use my information... but try eating
sunflower seeds, pumpkin seed, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts. Also try Keto
brand cereals which are low carb but offer fiber. Keto brand also offers a
high fiber complex powder that is fairly low in carbs. (For info go to:
http://www.healthierways.com/high_fiber_complex3.htm.) Also, I have a
recipe for white chili that is excellent. Email me for it if you like.

I understand your concern, but first of all, carbohydrates are not evil per
se. Your body NEEDS the carbohydrates and other nutrients you get from
fruits, vegetables and whole grains. The idea is to have a balanced diet,
with an emphasis on protein. You should limit refined carbohydrates (sugar
and white flour and things made with these: pastries, bread, pasta, etc.)
and starches (potatoes, white rice, etc.). Veggies and fruits provide
fiber. You should eat them. With that said, I do find it difficult to get
enough fiber in my diet (once I get the protein in, there's little room for
veggies and fruits). So, I use Benefiber. You can add it to any liquid or
soft food (like yogurt). It's not gritty and doesn't have a taste. About
three tablesoons a day, along with some fruits or veggies, seems to be
enough for me.

Hi there!
I read someone else's post the other day and learned something new. Their
surgeon told them to take the # of carbs in a food item, subtract the grams
of protein, and the grams of fiber, if it is 10 or under, it is okay and
considered low in carbs b/c of the fiber. Interesting huh?

I just found this product at the grocery store yesterday that's sugar free
and has 6g of Soluble Dietary Fiber per bottle. Its a drink called Pulse
made by Baxter Healthcare. The one that I got is the 'Heart Health Formula'
in the mandarin citrus flavor. It has 38 calories, 9g Total Carbs (6g
Fiber, 0g Sugar), 63 mg Vitamin C, 18 mcg Selenium, and 20 g Potassium. It
is sweetened with Sucralose (Splenda). This seems, to me, to be a good way
to get our fiber as well as our fluids at the same time. It has a very good
flavor and I couldn't detect an aftertaste. I don't remember how much I
paid for it but I don't remember it being too expensive. There is also a
website address listed on the bottle (www.pulsenutrition.com).
