Question:
Is it safe to take both Calcium Citrate and Calcium Carbonate?
Is it safe to take both calcium citrate and calcium carbonate? I usually take Isotonix calcium but sometimes I forget in the morning or am not able to take it with me to mix up. Today I purchased some Vivactiv (calcium carbonate) to leave at work just in case I get behind in my program. I've tried taking Citrical tablets but for some reason every time I do it makes me vomit (not sure why). Should I take both or for the additional calcium all together? It would be nice if they made a shot or pill for all these daggone supplements! — Starrlina (posted on August 7, 2003)

I have taken the Citrical tablets and they are so dang big. They might be
partially blocking your opening to the intestinal track before they start
to break down. Try cutting them with a pill cutter to make them smaller. I
believe that they have a score line down the middle so it should not be too
hard to cut.

Don't even bother taking the Carbonate. We don't absorb it at all and its a
waste of time and money. Like the other poster said, cut the pills to make
them smaller. I'm sure its getting stuck. If you miss a day, take it later.
As long as you get it in is what counts.

Other than its good taste, Viativ is totally useless for us.

Here's another vote to forget the carbonate - it needs to be citrate.

I would vote against splitting calcium pills. The edge is rough and gets
stuck even worse than the whole, larger pill. Try the liquid citrate. I
bought it from Vitaminworld.com.

I agree with the others - don't bother with the carbonate. Vitalady sells
a calcium citrate "capsule" that can be opened and mixed in
liquid if you are having trouble with pills. It's also smaller than other
calcium tablets.
