Hi Nee Nee, my highest weight was above 502, I was 462 at my surgery
consult. I am 5'3 so my BMI was over 80. I've lost 50 lbs, since my open
RNY April 7th, but I have some other health issues going on, so I don't
think I'm a person to compare to. My advice follow your doctors and
nutritionist guidelines. Best wishes.

I was only 425 (ONLY? LOL)...but I've lost 175 at one year out and feel
grand! I'm 6 feet tall though so I'm fairly close to my goal with about 30
to 50 pounds to go, depending on how much my panni weighs. My best advice
is avoid sugar as much as humanly possible (natural sugar or refined),
avoid starchy carbs or severly limit them, take your vitamins and shoot for
proteins and drink lots of water to flush the fat from your bod. Exercise
as much as you can - even if it means putting things in inconvenient spots
so you have to go a bit further to get them and lastly, EAT! Eating too
little will only slow your losses down. Good luck!

I was 440 and am 1 year out. I'm down 174, but still have 75 to go. 30 of
that will be one fell swoop in a couple of weeks when the panni gets lopped
off!! Woo-hoo! I'm 5'10". My biggest advice is to simply never test
the limits! Don't eat sugar, not even sugar-free treats -- it's a slippery
slope. And stay away from chips! Good Luck to you!!

Hey Nee Nee! I had open Fobi 1/17/03, 2 weeks before surgery I officially
weighed 460. But in those 2 weeks I ate my behind in food, and the
bariatric bed had me at 475 day of surgery. I'm 5'6 and I weigh 349! I
expected the weight loss to be faster b/c I started out so big but it has
been a slow process. The hardest part has been eating and trying to
exercise. I hate to eat it's uncomfortable but oh well. My goal is 200.
I already have a lot of extra skin so I'm trying to reach my goal as fast
as possible b/c I need this skin removed. It has not been an easy 6 months
but I'll do it again. I think it's hard to lose weight at my starting size
even with surgery I was just in too much pain to exercise. I wish you all
the luck in the world. Best wishes Kimmie

Nee Nee,
I had my open RNY on April 7 of this year and as of today I have lost 75
pounds. I started at 454 the day of surgery. So 75 pounds in 4 months isn't
bad to me. I feel great. I have already noticed that there are things I can
do better now than I could have done 4 months ago. My energy level has
increased tremendously! I can't wait for the rest of my weight to go away!
I love this surgery and would do it again in a heartbeat. I am off all my
meds that I was on before surgery and no longer need my machine for my
sleep apnea. Good luck to you and take it from me, there is life after
surgery, it gets so much better.

I had both the Lap/Open RNY on Christmas Eve 2002. I haven't weighed myself
since the end of June, but when I weighed last I was down 122 pounds. I
started out at 496. I am 5'8". I am at the point of frustration now
because I can eat more and even though I have lost alot of weight I am
still huge. Does anyone else feel like this?
— Jennifer C.

Oh Jennifer, can I ever relate! With 30 to 50 pounds to go I should NOT
feel huge, but I do and it's largely (no pun intended) due to my panni and
thighs!

NeeNee, I started this path at 468. that was five years ago. I weigh in
today at 183. I'm 9wks post op on the TT, which helped a lot. I have been
my worst enemy at times--I am addicted to coffee and have drank to close or
during meals, and I must admit the major affair I had with potatoe chips.
there are so many things we can do to slow down the progress or stop it
completely. I urge you to keep your bottom off the chair and the blood
flowing, and when the addition urges come get here and TYPE TYPE TYPE!!!!!!

your body...) by your surgeon / nutritionists guidelines.. you'll do just
fine :) Good luck in your journey!

currently 4.5 months post op and have lost 142 lbs. I started at 474, and
am currently 332. While I still have a way to go to goal, the loss already
has been profound! Feel free to check out my wife and I on our profile.

This surgery is the best thing I have done for myself! i had an open-rny
on May 15, 2003! I have lost 115 lbs so far-it's not always very easy but
the difference in the quality of my life is immense! Remember that
everyone loses weight at a different rate-so try not to compare yourself to
others! Good luck! Karen
