Question:
4 1/2 months post op, could I be done losing?
I had open RNY on 3-17-03. Everything went great, so far I've lost 77 lbs. I feel great but I'd really like to get down to 150, I have 34 more lbs to go. I haven't lost any weight in over 2 weeks. Could this be all the weight I'm going to lose? STEPHANIE Open RNY 261/184/150 — Stephanie M. (posted on July 29, 2003)

You're the one in control, not the surgery. What are you doing to meet the
surgery halfway. Give it a little help. If you only have 34 to go then you
should be able to exercise more rigorously than at a heavier weight. Start
sweatin! The surgery is what helped me get a start. The exercise is what
got me to goal and keeps me there.

You're only 4 1/2 months out. I'll bet you dollars to donuts (pun
intended) that you'll lose more. I know it seems to take forever in the
beginning, but that's a whole lotta poundage to drop in just a few months.
Patience was never one of my virtues, either, but it'll happen, you'll see.

Strong chance you are on a plateau and that you will lose more. I am 4 mos
post-op and I have had plateau's which last about 3 weeks. I go 3 weeks
without losing one ound - then the scale suddenly drops. My Doctor says
they are normal and your body sometimes needs to "catch up". When
I am on a plateau, I excersize a little more and get on the protein train
to try to break the plateau.

Stephanie, hi! i truly doubt that you're done losing. this surgery is a
WONDERFUL thing, but it is only a tool and we control our results. when i
hit plateaus, i would up my exercise, up my water and protein intake and
cut down (not out) the carbs. if you are exercising and it seems to be
"in vain", you might try meeting with a personal trainer and
talking about exercising in your "target heart rate". IT REALLY
MAKES A DIFFERENCE!! :-) i know that "meeting with a trainer"
sounds daunting, but i found a trainer that charged $25 for one meeting and
she set up a training schedule for me. showed me how to use the heart rate
monitor and showed me the correct posture to walk/run. it has REALLY
worked!! good luck and if you have any further questions, maybe i can
help! email me! good luck!
