Question:
Need info or links on Open vs Lap
I am still trying to decide which type to have. Does anyone have links, or could list the pros and cons for them? Thanks=) — JessieL (posted on July 24, 2003)

Hi, I had my surgery Lap, 5 1/2 months ago. I was very satisfied.
Different doctors prefer doing the surgery different ways. I told my Dr.
that he could do it in the lobby of the hospital and cut me from my neck to
my navel if that was the safest way to do it. From what I hear, the Lap
Drs. fee they have a good view of everything with the cameras, and the open
Drs. feel they can see better their way. Either way you decide, it is
still the same surgery inside. Good luck!!

Hi there ... I had my Lap surgery done 5 weeks ago, and through the
Northwestern Memorial Hospital's Wellness Institute ... they currently have
a BMI limit of 60 for laparoscopic surgery. Sometimes they cannot do Lap,
due to other problems, but I would think if anyone had the choice, they
would select laparoscopic surgery. I have six small incisions (one inch
each) instead of being opened from my breastbone to my bellybutton ... and
I understand there is less recovery time with Lap surgery. I was very
happy and relieved they were able to do it this way ... but I was also
EXTREMELY confident in my surgeon.
