I have been, but thanks to good pain meds and Chiropractor and physical
therapy I am coping. I wish you well.

I was diagnosed pre-surgery and provided medication to help sleep @ night
so at least I wasn't compounding things with fatigue... since WLS, I still
have some symptoms but the majority of the problems I had pre-op are now
gone.

It is my understanding that vitamin b-12 deficiant people are more apt to
get it. I have been told to get b-12 shots as this is a major problem for
those of us who have had the surgery, as b-12 loss causes nerve damage and
such. I am so sorry, and wish you the best.

Well, let me tell you a little about my story. I had open RNY on 4/5/02
and 3 weeks after surgery started having severe low back and abdominal pain
that continues today. I have had every test under the sun, and no one can
find anything wrong, so now they are telling me it's probably fibromyalgia.
The thing with FMS is that they try to rule everything else out, and then
if they can't find anything wrong, and you have 16 of the 20 some symptoms,
than you have it. Please don't be so quick to own this, because it doesn't
really go away. Please keep looking for the answer. I've listed my whole
story in my profile, so that I could be of help to someone else. You are
welcome to read it, if you want. Please email me privately if you would
like to talk more. Good luck and God Bless!!

I was just diagnosed two weeks ago and officially last Thursday. I'm 7 1/2
months post-op. Around 6 weeks out, I was wondering why my upper back was
feeling worse instead of better and went to the doctor. It took me until
two weeks ago to get back for the results (busy doctor - he wanted to see
me in six weeks not four months). Anyhow, after a bone scan, they found I
have arthritis in my shoulders, my lower back, my knees, and ankles. When
they checked my trigger points, I responded to 15 out of the 18 (you only
need 11). At the Fibromyalgia Clinic, they shared with me the fact that I
also have restless leg syndrome. I began having migraines within a week of
having the surgery. When I do something, I gotta go all the way and do it
right.
I'm now getting B-12 injections in addition to my sublingual B-12 (I was
only taking once a week). I was told that even if your labwork shows
normal ranges, it can still be low. I now take the sublingual once a day.
They also added some pain meds. I take an antianxiety agent and a pain
pill at bedtime. According to my husband, this has helped with the
restless leg syndrome, and I'm no longer yelling out in pain in my sleep.

I was just diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 2 weeks ago, I will be 1 year
post op on 9/24/03. I am down 125lbs and now weigh 150lbs and couldn't
figure out why I was suddendly having migrain headaches and this awful pain
in my shoulders and back. I have just started physical therapy, some days I
find it hard to function or even come to work. Has there been any
correlation found between the fibromyalgia and wls?

It is my understanding that fibromyalgia often starts after a trauma such
as a car accident. Does it make sense to anyone that maybe the trauma of
major surgery and rapid weight loss might bring it on? Im just guessing, no
medical data to back me up. I also will add that everybody I personally
know w/ fibromyagia is overweight. I was hoping for one friends sake that
wls will help improve her disease if she gets the wls.
