Question:

I know that everyone's weight loss is different and everything depends on how much you work your tool, but I'd like to hear from some people on their weight loss between 6 and 10 months. Specifically, is it even at all possbile to expect to be able to lose 40 pounds in 4 months post honeymoon? I have 2 more weeks until my 6 month mark and have lost about 95 lbs so far. I have about 40 to 50 left to lose and would love to have 30 to 40 off by Thanksgiving. We will be going to see all my inlaws out of state who haven't seen me since my surgery and I sure would love to be close to goal by then. Is this a pipe dream??? Has anyone out there had a decent weight loss between 6 and 10 months?? — Kathy S. (posted on July 16, 2003)

at six months I'd lost 101 pounds and by 10 months I was down 154
pounds...so I lost 54 pounds in those four months. That is when my
weight-loss crept to a crawl. From everything I've read and heard the
"window" is open for most from 12 to 18 months and sometimes up
to 24 months for the SMO (which I was). Good luck!

The weight loss is about 1 year, not 6 months. You will continue to lose,
but impossible to predict as everyone loses different. I was a slower, but
steady loser until 16 mo out.

original poster here. . .I wasn't talking about the window of opportunity,
I realize I still have a while to keep losing. I really was referring the
the fairly fast weight loss in the honeymoon period of the 1st 6 months.
Just wonder how slow it would be after the 6 month mark. Thanks a bunch!!

Hi - I lost 120 the first 5 months, then slowed down dramatically. In the
last 6 months (I'm almost a year!), I've only lost 44 more. It's pretty
frustrating to have such a drastic change, especially since I still have
far to go! A friend of mine lost steadily for a year though, with no
plateaus or slowing and has maintained goal for a year.

I lost 120 pounds in six months and then went two months without losing an
ounce. Then in the next month, I lost 30 pounds. I am 19 months out now
and have lost a total of 181 pounds. Sure, it slowed down but I am also
eating more and a bigger variety of food. I have surpassed my surgeon's
goal for me and he is pleased with my weight. So, six months isn't the cut
- off.
