Question:
How do you know if you have a blood clot?
What do they feel like? I'm 6 days post-op and paranoid about this! I have a sort of achey feeling in my arm and then get a bit liteheaded every once in a while. This just started today. I have been taking short walks every day. Any ideas on this? — Stamper B. (posted on July 15, 2003)

I think we are all a little parinoid about this. But a blood clot is warm
to the touch in the area it is at and pink or red and painful. If you have
a blood clot in your lung, there might be shortness of breath. Also blood
clots are known as the 'silent killer" because some types can have no
symtons and no warning before they strike. It doesn't sound as if you have
a blood clot but i am not a doctor only an R.N. If you are concerned your
doctor is the person to ask. Always ask your doc.

Also your ankle can swell up like crazy. I developed a blood clot in my
left leg and the left ankle is huge. The blood goes in via an artery then
has a hard time coming out of a vein. When you do develop a bloodclot be
prepared to add another pill to your routine (coumadin) for the next 6+
months. <p> Take Care, Be Well, Be Happy!
