Question:
Does Tricare Prime pay for ongoing nutritionist appointments?
I'm 3 months post-op and have never seen a nutritionist except once in a group setting at the surgeon's office. I believe I would benefit from a nutritionist's advice on a regular basis. Has anybody with Tricare Prime had them pay for you to see a nutritionist on a regular basis? RNY 4/103; 259,200 — Vicki S. (posted on July 6, 2003)

I see the nutritionist when I go see my surgeon for follow up appointments.
If you are near a MTF, I am sure you can see the nutrtionist there as much
as you need to. I know that our MTF nutritionist knows NOTHING about WLS
patients though.

I am not sure, but I think unless it is through the surgeons office,
Tricare will not pay. The reason is they do not cover any weight
management. I am pre-op and also diabetic, and I have tried to get Tricare
Prime to pay for my diabetic nutritionist and they will not do it. So I go
to a nutritionist but I go through my Endrocnologist office. As one poster
said if you go to a base, you may be able to go to a nutritionist, ask your
surgeon if you can go throught the education and nutritionist classes
again.

I also have Tricare Prime. I had surgery and it was all paid for. My only
out of pocket cost is to the nutritionist. They do not pay for this
service. I figure it is a small price to pay to have the surgery. I am
required to see one by my surgeon, and it does help-but I will jsut have to
pay for it.
