Question:
What should I have at home
I am having my surgery one week from today. I have not received a list of what vitamin/minerals/supplements that I should start taking right after surgery. Also I have not been told what my final pre-op blood work is going to be, how long does this appointment take? Any input please!! — tigerpaws (posted on July 4, 2003)

My surgery is in 32 days, I have my pre-op testing schedule for July 28th
and a teaching day scheduled for July 29th, my pre-op visit with the
surgeon scheduled for August 1st and surgery August 6th. The nurse told me
that pre-op testing is usually, but not always, about one or two weeks
before surgery. If you surgery is only one week away, you should have a
pre-op testing day scheduled. I think you need to call the surgeons office
on Monday, and find out what is going to happen with you pre-op testing,
when is it, and find out if they profide a teaching class, so that you can
learn about minerals/vits/protein. Sounds like someone in the surgeons
office dropped the ball. I would call them.

My surgeons office breifly went over the vitamins in my consult but after
surgery when i went back in for a post-op visit he told me then what
vitamins I would be taking. Most surgeons don't start you on all that
stuff directly out of surgery. They have a timetable for certain things to
be added. They did want me to start taking chewable multi vits pre-op.
Check with their office on Monday. If you have had everything done but
your final blood work, they willdo that right before your surgery. Like a
day or two before. Good luck!!!!
