Question:
Other than losing weight, what are your top five goals or dreams for after you lose
weight? I am so curious to know what others are looking forward to. I think about things like crossing my legs for the first time or buying something at Victoria Secret. What are the things you are looking forward to or that you accomplished after losing weight? — Ann B. (posted on July 4, 2003)

1.Be able to play with my 6 yr old son-biking, skating, baseball, soccer.
Hubby has done all of these things with him and I am dying to join them.
2.Buy regular sized clothes at regular stores at normal prices. 3.Get a
job-my work experience is in factory/manufacturing/auto parts, beleive it
or not I want to return to it and do better than just make it through 8
hours on my feet. 4.Better sex-no more feeling ashamed of my body and
denying myself the intimacy I want so badly. 5.To feel 'smaller' and blend
in with average people. 6.To fit into: carnival rides, booths, lawn
chairs, between my car seat and steering wheel, toilet stalls, theatre
seats,etc....

Hi many of mine are similar too yours.... but here are my top 5.
1. To be able to walk around all day and tire out my husband for a change.
2. to be able to cross my legs (something I have never been able to do)
3. Be able to buy clothing at Rave
4. Be able to ride amusment park rides with my kids without feeling ashamed
or without having all the fears.
5. Being able to be around my many thin friends without feeling less than
adequate
Of course the list goes on and on and trying to put them in order is hard
but these are my hopes and dreams.

I'm almost 2 yrs post. I'll tell you what my top five goals/dreams have
been. Gardening. Not only do I now garden without pain...I climb up into
trees and trim branches. Going out to the park/shopping/work and saying
hello to everyone I pass instead of planning my routes with the fewest
social interactions and the least bit of eye contact. Fitting into size
eight jeans (I was bursting out of 28's!!). Sleeping comfortably without a
half dozen pillows to keep me from crushing my own wind pipes. No longer
being the fattest person in a room....I don't know who is, because I no
longer pay attention. Walking in charity events instead of just sponsering
someone else! I could go on and on...keeping the weight off is not the
easiest, but the hard work is sooooo worth it. I live in a whole different
world now. God bless you on your wls journey. -Kim open RNY 7/17/01 -145ish

My first and foremost goal is to keep the weight off. I don't look at
surgery as a magic pill. I know for me it is going to be a life long
journey. Now to the fun stuff. I would love to try white water rafting, go
back to Europe as a normal size person (went 10yrs ago at 350lbs), go
horseback riding. I think I would just like to be more active with outdoor
activities. Take Care, Toni 01/10/02 441/216/1??

1. To be confident enough to get out there and find myself a man!
2. To feel good enough about my body to not be totally self-conscious when
I'm naked with a man!
3. To do things that I avoid doing now, like going to a swimming pool or
going to the lake because I would have to be in swimming suit, or to go
hiking or camping or anything else that I avoid now.
4. To be able to walk into a room and feel like I look great and people
are looking at me because of that and not looking at my thinking 'she'd be
so pretty if she'd just lose some weight'.
5. Did I mention get a man?? Great sex with a man?? I'm way past due
people!!!!
Good luck to all of you. I'm enjoying what everyone's exciting new goals
are. Hugs!

my top five I've already accomplished (go to a concert and FIT in the
seats, have sex without injuring my back, play rough and tumble with my
kids, go shopping all day without undo pain, go shopping for jeans in
Kmart) - so guess I should think of five new ones. I think these will have
to wait until after my panni is removed as it gets in the way. 1. I want
to RUN! not jog - just a short run without feeling like things are going to
fly up and whap me in the head. 2. Take dance lessons - latin-style. 3.
Go parachuting or para-sailing. 4. Having an even larger selection of
clothes! 5. Finish college. Doable :>)

1. to never have to hear the words...."you're so beautiful
BUT...." again. 2. to buy and wear a bikini 3. to be the "short
petite girl" not the "short fat girl"... 4. to not have to
spend every waking moment worried about how much I hate my body and how
disgussting I feel 5. to never see another disappointed look on a man's
face as he realizes how great I am but that he would never date me becuse I
am fat.... There they are and think about these things every hour of the
day and I cannot wait for this nightmare to end,,,,Surgery Date 8/12/2003

I'm less then 2 weeks pre-op now so I think about these things all the time
to keep my mind off of all of the other unpleasant things that are going to
happen first. 1. crossing my legs(doesn't seem like a big deal until you
can't do it), 2. going back to college, 3. shopping in regular stores, 4.
walking without being out of breath or hurting, 5. swimming, I used to love
to swim but I haven't been in years because it's bad enough for me to see
me in a bathing suit but there is no need to subjest the rest of the world
to that! :)

My first goal was to be able to paint my toe nail without breaking out in a
sweat trying to reach my toes. Now 9 months postop my toe nails are always
painted, flaming red or bright pink. Plus I bought two pretty toe
rings.

The next goal is to get rid of the seat belt extender in my car. My seat
belts were always short even for my average weight husband, so we got the
extenders. I can't wait to get rid of them. I can buckle without the
extender, but it's a little too snug for me.

These may seem like silly goals, but I was a heavy weight with 210 pounds
to loose so these were major issues for me. I am 95 pounds from goal.

1) To enjoy a day at the water park or river rafting with my kids...I feel
like I've let them down so much not being able to do things with them (they
are 10 and 12)
2) To buy regular sized clothes that are fashionable
3) To be able to go to my class reunion (I won't go the way I am now.)
4) To not have to wonder, when I teach classes--adult education classes--
how many of the participants are thinking "what does this fat lady
know?"
5) To have more energy and not be tired so much!
— Jenni R.

1) To feel healthier, get dresed without being out of breath. 2) To never
buy clothes at Casual Male Big & Tall again. 3) To comfortably have sex
in the car. 4) Develop a long-term relationship, without my weight being a
major factor. 5) Participate in life, rather be a specator of life!

To outrun my 9-year-old son, to go horseback riding again (grew up on

front of his friends.
open rny, 3 1/2 weeks post-op

seem to love to make large clothes in.
3. To be able to sit in a chair without concern as to whether it will hold
me.
4. To be able to go to a flea market with my husband and keep up with him

Original Poster Here-Gosh yall were great. I asked this question on the
Message Board and got no response. I had about 74 goals before I asked the
question here. Yall have helped me up my list to 120 things. This is so
exciting. I plan on printing out the list and putting a copy in my car, at
the office, and in the kitchen. I will use it to help motivate me when I
don't feel like working out, or feel frustrated at work, or don't want to
make myself eat. I am really delighted that so many people shared your
dreams and goals with me. You never know the difference you can make to
someone else. Thank you.

Oh my gosh, what a fabulous question!! I had to answer! My top 4 are very
similiar to others..1.)To get out & enjoy my son & hubby in an
atmosphere not chosen to "fit" me & my size 2.)Vacation
somewhere exotic like a cruise or the Bahamas & feel comfortable 3.)Buy
& Wear normal size clothes from ANYWHERE! 4.)The Sex thang...sorry, but
it is true!! and my #5 is going to sound waaay out there to some of
you....5.)I want to win a karaoke contest...I know it sounds wacked, but it
is true. I can SING, I sound great, and dont have a real hard time gettin
up there & whalin out the notes...but any contest I have been in
(approximately 30) I have lost to a skinny "hotty" that could NOT
sing better than me!! I have had judges tell me after contests that I
should have won, but it was an image thing....SOOOO, I want to win first
place, on my merit, but cant seem to do it in this body!! (I did win once,
first place, but there was not much competition, so it wasnt a real
accomplishment) So that is what I am looking forward to. THANK YOU FOR THIS
KOOL QUESTION!!

I have dreamed of many of the things people have listed below, but my
number one goal and the reason I decided to have the surgery is to be able
to stop using the cpap machine for sleep apnea. I want to be able to spend
the night at some one's house (preferably male) with out snoring so loudly
and gasping for breathe. I didn't need the machine until I got so fat and
doctor says with weight loss I won't need it again. So at four weeks
post-op this remains my number one goal.

Hi :-)! On my profile, I have created a list of 117 things I am looking
forward to after surgery and significant weight loss. They are not in any
particular order, and my top five would all have to be medical related.
However, I wrote the list as a fun and theraputic exercise. I hope you
enjoy it. :-)

Wow - LOVE everyone sharing...Here are mine: 1) being able to stand/walk
without my thighs getting numb and experiencing pain, 2) Shopping
anywhere!!!!! (no offense, Lane Bryant), 3) Increased mobility to no
longer hamper normal activities - so many (toe nail painting, etc), 4) Not
having to panic prior to going in a restaurant, wondering about the
seating, 5) The confidence I will gain, knowing I conquered the single most
difficult thing in my life - something few rarely conquer in this world.
Gosh, I think #5 will create so many new opportunities.
