Question:
Does EVERYONE have the excess skin issue after weight loss?

I am 5'2, 250lbs, I am a size 22/24 I am 27yrs old, my surgery date is 8/12/03 (yippee!) ....Is it inevitable that I will have this excess skin problem that so many people talk about? Or is it a matter of skin type and tugor? I want to know are there any people of my similar size out there who DID NOT have the skin problem after weight loss...?????    — E. V. I am 5'3 and started out at 238 , now 14 months later i am at 116 and no tummy tuck will be needed, yes i still need to tone up the tummy some but with my age of 45 i think my skin shrank back pretty well , you will have some saggy skin but that beats the hanging fat . you are younger and your skin will have more elasticity to going back in shape better , just exercise and try to tone up as best you can , not every one needs plastic surgery but some do.

I was 31 when I had my surgery and I was only fat for 10 years prior to surgery. I thought my age and the relative short amount of time I was fat would help me avoid more surgery. Let me tell you 9 months later and 130lbs lost I need major reconstructive surgery!!!!!! I need a tummy tuck, breast lift, and I wont even go into how bad my arms and inner thighs look now. I have over a dozen friends that range in age from their mid 20's to mid 30's and we all have the same hanging skin issues!!!! I hope you beat the odds but if you don't you aren't alone!!!!!!! Good luck to you. Wendi

Hi there, I am 5'6" and wieghed 280 and was 26 when I had wls - I have lost 117 lbs in the last 7 months and I have some saggy skin, but I don't think it's bad enough for surgery. My arms and stomach are my "problem areas", but it's not too bad - I work out alot and am hoping to tone up w/o surgery. I wish you luck!

My starting weight was 232 and I am 5'tall. I had my surgery on 1/7/03, about 3 weeks before my 49th birthday. I have lost 91 lbs to date (twenty before surgery) and I definately have hanging skin. Chin and arms are the worst, but my knees kind of look like one of those Sharpei dogs!! I feel that my age has a great deal to do with it. I bet since you are so much younger yours will bounce back very nicely. Good luck!
